Jean-Baptiste Poquelin Moliere Journal Questions Please complete one journal entry for the play Tartuffe Respond to any one of the questions below. Your response should take the form of a type-written, five to seven paragraph essay of about 800-1000 words. As you assemble this essay, pattern at least 6 of your own sentences after the sentence patterns found on the second sentence pattern handout distributed at the start of the second quarter. Make certain you use several different and thoughtfully distributed patterns in the essay so that you have variety rather than monotony. And please...choose at least three or four of your patterns from the more challenging areas (numbers 7-16 and numbers 19-24) of the pattern sheet. It's really not going to do you much good if you keep repeating simple patterns, though certainly there are places to employ these too. Do not forget to label or mark each sentence as previously instructed. I would also encourage you to continue using sentence patterns from the first quarter handout as well. Do not forget to illustrate your responses with carefully chosen, gracefully integrated quotations from the play.

He had insisted on going through with the performance in spite of the advice of his wife and friends saying, "There are fifty poor workers who have only their daily wage to live on. What will become of them if the performance does not take place?" He passed away later that night at his home on the Rue Richelieu. The local priests refused to take his confession, for actors had no social standing and had been excommunicated by the church. Nor would they permit him to be buried in holy ground. Four days later, the King interceded and Molière was finally buried in the Cemetery Saint Joseph under the cover of darkness.
