A SENSE OF ASIA
Chinese succession? What succession? The fight goes on
See the Sol Sanders Archive By Sol Sanders SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM November 21, 2002 “This kowtowing, or bowing our heads to the ground, was very tiring at first and made us dizzy, until we got used to it.” Two Years in the Forbidden City , by the Princess Der Ling, First Lady in Waiting to the Empress Dowager Former President Jiang Zemin and his anointed successor, former Vice President Hu Jintao, and the Chinese opera chorus of hangers-on, are still fighting it out. There is little definitive about the 16th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party just concluded behind the fans [and spittoons]. Jiang, attempting to imitate his [and Hu’s] mentor Deng Xiaoping, managed to hang on to the Party’s Military Affairs Commission while abandoning his other hats. But his term has not been announced, a signal the fight goes on. It is 2002, not 1978 when Deng announced his Four Modernizations, inaugurating a full-blown retreat from the Marxist Leninist Maoist nightmare’s economic catastrophes. Jiang had his Three Representatives [pace Nikita Khruschev who howled, “will our Chinese comrades stop using those damned numbered non-Marxian-Leninist slogans!”] But it takes more than the three leaders’ portraits in the Hall of the People to seal a political bargain in the bloody CCP history. While displayed equal to The Thought of Mao Tsetung and Deng Xiaoping’s analects, the 3 Reps were not incorporated into the constitution. That means entry for the Red Capitalists [poor Li Ka Shing, the people’s billionaire!] will have to be stealthily instead of as a body [and a claque] for Jiang.

I am seeking information on the life, family and any descendants of Chinese General Dan Pao Chao, who was a young man just out of military school in the late 1890's/1900. He married Yu Rongling, daughter of Lord Yu-keng, bannerman of the Plain White company, who was ambassador to Japan and France and died in 1905. Rongling's sister, Princess Der Ling, was famed for writing of her experiences at the court of the Empress Dowager Tzu Hsi. Rongling herself published her memoirs, in Chinese, in the early 1950's. Any information or advice about the Dan family or the general himself will be very much appreciated.

http://www.thejohnsens.com/dqnotes.html
Notes on Starlit Reflections: Dark Quarter
When writing Starlit Reflections: Dark Quarter, I did a lot of research. Consequently, I occasionally reference something outside the general knowledge of the Western fan.
When I do that, I make notes about it. In the text version of Starlit Reflections: Dark Quarter, these notes were placed at the end of the chapters. Prologue: Voice Across Time - Nuriko Although the custom among the nobility of Imperial China was to have a group of servants waiting at the side of the dining room during the meal, to take orders to the kitchen, clear away the used and empty dishes, fetch articles their masters might require and perform other minor services for their masters, I have chosen to not have this custom in the Konan of 'Starlit Reflections'. 'Pillow books' were scrolls or books traditionally presented to brides on their wedding night, just before they went to their husbands. They contained detailed drawings of sexual intercourse in various forms and positions, with instructions for the inexperienced bride. Back to Prologue Chapter One: In The Great Khan's Shadow - Uruki Watase-sensei has never shown us enough of Hokkan for us to determine exactly what its basis in the real world is, so for the purposes of this story I have assumed that the Ming dynasty never fell and the Mongol/Manchurian Xing dynasty never took power, remaining in the northern fourth of China beyond the Great Wall, just north of Beijing.

Inhalt China im 16. Jahrhundert.

Princess visits Klong Toey slum
Last month Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana, the oldest daughter of King Bhumibol, visited Klong Toey Slum in her new role as an anti-drugs campaigner. Princess Ubolratana first visited Chumchon Moo Baan Pattana School, the school originally started by DPF Secretary General Prateep Ungsongtham Hata and which is now next door to the Duang Prateep Foundation building. At the school, there were speeches by the Minister of Public Health, the local MP, the assistant national police chief and DPF Secretary General Senator Prateep Ungsongtham Hata. In her speech, Prateep talked about the sporting and recreational activities taking place in the slum communities in a bid to keep slum dwellers away from drugs. Prateep also talked about the New Life Projects to rehabilitate addicts, which the foundation has set up in Chumphon and Kanchanaburi provinces.

In 1898 she resumed the regency after he had attempted to institute political reforms against her wishes, and thereafter she ruled directly. Philip Ahn: Born in America
By
Philip Ahn Cuddy
Pil Lip Ahn was born March 29, 1905, in Highland Park, California. Philip Ahn, his Westernized name, was the first American citizen born of Korean parents in the United States. His parentsthe great Korean patriot Dosan Ahn Chang Ho and his wife, Helen Lee, the second Korean woman to enter Americacame to the United States in 1902. They were the first married couple to leave Korea and come to America. Philip was their first son. The Ahn family were pioneers in more ways than one. The first school he attended was the Seventh Day Adventist school in Riverside. Philip's family moved to Los Angeles, where he finished grammar school at Fremont Avenue. Philip went to Central Junior High, graduated in June 1920, and was valedictorian. He went to Polytechnic High School. Although he studied electrical engineering, he took an interest in drama and speech classes and participated in as many of the school plays as he could with the Mask and Sandal Drama Club. These days Philip began to develop his great voice. While he was still in high school, he visited Douglas Fairbanks'
