Posteriormente

Programme Note:
My search ended when I discovered the work of the American poet Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885). A contemporary of Emily Dickinson, Jackson was considered by Emerson, among others, to be one of the best women poets of her time. She turned to poetry after the death of her first husband in 1863; her early work (much of which was published anonymously or under pseudonyms, as was still common for women poets at the time) attracted an unusual amount of attention, and she soon became self-supporting no small feat for any poet of any age. Later in life, she published under her own name, and many more of her poems were collected and published posthumously.
The three poems in this cycle all reflect upon the richness of a life now shadowed by the spectre of death. In each, Jackson's simple, declarative style gives room to tremendous emotional breadth, reaffirming the joy and exhilaration of the present moment, and finding solace in the knowledge of a life well-lived.
Found Frozen is dedicated with love to Michael and Tina.

Ramona
A Novel By Helen Hunt Jackson
In March of 1884, after four months of writing, Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885) finished her now-famous novel Ramona. One of the locations to which her heroine and hero, Ramona and Alessandro, flee in the novel is Temecula. The store known as Hartzel's in the novel was actually the Wolf Store, which is still standing today. Her novel, the story of the struggles of Native-Americans of Southern California, was first published in weekly installments in the Christian Union . Since that time the story has been recreated in numerous films and a play. The dramatization by Garnet Holme has been performed annually, with a few exceptions, at the Ramona Pageant in an outdoor amphitheater in Hemet for about seventy-five years.
Some Of The Actresses Who Have Portrayed Ramona:
Mary Pickford, silent movie, 1910 Delores Del Rio, movie, 1928 Loretta Young, movie, 1937 Raquel Welch (a.k.a Raquel Tejada), Ramona Pageant, at age 18, about 1956
Raves And Reviews About The Novel
"Ramona is a novel to sit up all night over; perhaps to take up again and read with pleasure a second time. It is indeed a romance of the finest type."

A LAST PRAYER
Words: Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885). Music: Thomas Campbell Bouquet MIDI score ). Alternate tunes: Father, I scarcely dare to pray,
So clear I see, now it is done,
How I have wasted half my day,
And left my work but just begun.
So clear I see that things I thought
Were right or harmless were a sin;
So clear I see that I have sought,
Unconscious, selfish aims to win. So clear I see that I have hurt
The souls I might have helped to save;
That I have slothful been, inert,
Deaf to the calls Thy leaders gave. In outskirts of Thy kingdoms vast Father, the humblest spot give me; Set me the lowliest task Thou hast, Let me repentant work for Thee.
