Pero indignos sobre todo porque el género no nació como literatura culta y refinada sino como cultura popular a través de los folletines, ubicables en la misma categoría de los pocket-books (novelas de bolsillo) americanos, las novelas amarillas de Italia o la sensational novel de Inglaterra. En materia de género policial, los argentinos hemos conocido mas bien la tradición anglosajona (Poe, Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen, etc), mientras que la tradición francesa no tuvo tanto repercusión, salvo alguna excepción como la del comisario Maigret, de Simenon. Recapitularemos aquí entonces la historia de la novela policial francesa, y de paso el lector amigo del género encontrará algunos títulos, muchos editados en castellano, que le permitirán descansar un poco de la violencia de los thrillers americanos o de la fría lógica londinense, y disfrutar de una trama policial donde la acción y el discurso deductivo aparecen con el color de la aventura, el romanticismo y hasta el terror. Si de orígenes se trata, la cuestión comienza con un singular personaje de la vida real llamado Eugene Francois Vidocq (1775-1857), desertor, impostor, presidiario evadido y enemigo público número uno de Francia. En una palabra: lo peor de lo peor en materia de delincuencia.

Der Name dieser Krimi-Reihe lautet – lautete, muß es richtig heißen – Krähen-Bücher." (Alf Meyer: Politik und Kriminalliteratur: Karl Anders und seine >Krähen-Bücher<. Porträt eines Pioniers. Erschienen in: Jahrbuch der Kriminal-Literatur 1989, Bastei Lübbe 19067, 1989, S. 113). Der Nest-Verlag wurde 1946 in Nürnberg von Karl Anders und drei Mitgesellschaftern gegründet. Anders, der 1939 nach England emigrierte, arbeitete während des Krieges bei der BBC und kehrte 1945 als Deutschlandkorrespondent der BBC zurück. Er berichtete über die "Nürnberger Prozesse" und verarbeitete seine Berichte in dem Buch "Im Nürnberger Irrgarten". Der Nest-Verlag war ein politischer Verlag mit Beiträgen zur Völkerverständigung, Vergangenheitsbewältigung und Ökonomie. Mit der Währungsreform 1948 wurde auch die Lizenzbeschränkung für Verleger durch die alliierten Kontrollmächte aufgehoben, beide Ereignisse wirkten sich einschneidend aus. Die Papierzuteilungen, die bisher vom Verlagsprogramm abhängig waren, entfielen und viele der Vorkriegsverleger konnten wieder auf Ihren Bestandskatalog zurückgreifen. Politische Bücher waren nicht mehr gefragt und der Verlag musste sich, um überleben zu können, neu orientieren um konkurrenzfähig zu sein.

THE MONSIEUR LECOQ CHRONOLOGY
by Rick Lai Emile Gaboriau (1832-1873) created Monsieur Lecoq, one of the earliest detectives in literature. Lecoq was a major influence on Sherlock Holmes, Arsene Lupin and other fictional mystery characters. Gaboriau wrote five novels and one short story about Lecoq. The author also included characters from the Lecoq series in at least five other novels. Fortune Du Boisgobey (1821-91) also wrote one novel about Lecoq.
