Volume I, Issue 4 June 2002 College of Business Moves Into Cornell Hall - Finally! A dream that began in 1991 became a reality the week of May 20, as College of Business faculty, staff, and graduate students moved into a magnificent new home – Cornell Hall. Art Jago, professor of management and the college's liaison to the construction project, said, " The move went smoothly largely because everyone had their belongings packed in boxes by moving day. Clearly they were excited about their new quarters and didn't want to miss the moving van." According to Jago, the moving company transported about 4,800 boxes from the college's former home, Middlebush Hall, to the new building. Cornell Hall contains all new furniture so no furniture (other than about 175 file cabinets for safe-keeping of archival materials in a store room in the new facility) made the move. To Bruce Walker, dean of the College of Business, Cornell Hall is a critical part of the overall plan for the college to become one of the top-20 public business schools in the nation. Walker stated, "The new facility is not an end in itself or an end to our commitment to ongoing improvement. Rather, Cornell Hall is an important means by which we will provide our students with a better educational experience and our faculty with a superior environment for their teaching and research." As professor of accountancy, Jere Francis, noted, "The new building will serve as a catalyst to 'lift our game' and move us forward with the college's strategic plan."

Fourteenth Regiment West Virginia Volunteer Infantry in the American Civil War The Fourteenth Regiment West Virginia Infantry, a Union regiment in the American Civil War, was composed of men whose home counties included Doddridge, Marion, Monongalia, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Ritchie, Tyler, and Wood. This list of men and officers in the regiment was compiled by Bobby Thorne, a member of the Hacker’s Creek Pioneer Descendants, from a muster roll of the regiment on file at Archives and History in Charleston. The original includes the date each man was mustered in and out and the place of his first muster (usually at or near his home county). If he left the service early, the reasons for his leaving, i.e., illness, killed in action, are sometimes given.
Muster rolls for all other West Virginia regiments are also available at Archives and History.

Presently the community of Pierce County is working hard to be of great interest to all. Recently, I received some mail from John Guss who wrote the following: We are a very proud community dating back to the early 1800's. We have a tremendous amount of history which we are now beginning to compile and take notice. We have begun by forming an historical society for Pierce County. Here visitors and citizens of the community alike will be able to have the opportunity to learn more about the community than what they have currently observed. There are already several restoration projects taking place such as the city jail built in 1894, the Civil War prison site where over 5000 Union soldiers who had been previously imprisoned at Andersonville , were held while General Sherman marched his forces to seize Savannah, the promotion of the 1875 courthouse, Shiloh church, the first church in Pierce County, the Brantley Brick Warehouse built in the early 1900's, the Blackshear Presbyterian Church dating back to 1872, homes dating to the Civil War, and much much more.

The Descendants of Simon Weekes and his Son Francis

Notes taken from a Weeks GEDCOM, original author is unknown It has been said that Francis Weekes came in 1635 to Salem, MA, but there is no record of that statement, but removed to Dorchester, where George Weekes had settled, but that is uncertain, although probable, as Roger Williams lived there.
DOCUMENTARY HISTORY OF RHODE ISLAND WINTHROP PAPERS "After the Colony of Massachussetts Bay had passed upon Roger Williams in the autumn of 1635, Gov. John Winthrop, who was a friend of Williams, wrote privately to him and suggested that he should go and settle at Narragansett Bay." In his letter to Major Mason, dated Providence, 22 June 1670, Williams
Yet he changed his plans even before he left Salem, for while still there he, with more than twenty of his followers, was considering the erection of a plantation at Narragansett Bay. These plans may have been under contemplation even before the act of banishment was passed. (The governor and assistants met at Boston to cnsider about Mr. Williams, as he had drawn about twenty persons to his opinion, and they intended to erect a plantation about Narragansett Bay from whence the infection could spread. A warrant was sent to him to come to Boston immediately but he said he could not come without hazard to life, so a pinnace was sent with
