Jane Austen 1775-1817
Urodzi³a siê 16 grudnia 1775 roku, w kochaj±cej rodzinie, w wiosce Steventon. ¯y³a bardzo krótko, zaledwie 41 lat... Jane uczy³a siê w szkole dla dziewcz±t, ale tak¿e w domu, pod kierunkiem ojca, który by³ wiejskim pastorem. Mia³a radosn± i wra¿liw± osobowo¶æ. Lubi³a swoje ¿ycie, zawsze pogodnie nastawiona do ¶wiata.
Mi³o¶æ do literatury odziedziczy³a po ojcu, a poczucie humoru - po matce. Jej talent ujawni³ siê bardzo wcze¶nie, ju¿ w wieku 15 lat Jane napisa³a zabawn± historyjkê, któr± zilustrowa³a jej starsza siostra, Kasandra. Gdy by³a nastolatk± lubi³a pisaæ weso³e, ironiczne opowiadania, które wieczorami czytywa³a rodzinie. Uwielbia³a chwile spêdzone z kochaj±c± rodzin±. W latach 1785-98 Jane Austen stworzy³a pierwsz± wersjê "Rozwa¿na i romantyczna" ("Sense and Sensibility"). Jej najs³ynniejsz± ksi±¿ka jest niew±tpliwie "Duma i uprzedzenie" ("Pride and prejidice") napisana w latach 1796-97, któr± wydano w 1813 roku. Na podstawie jej ksi±¿ek powsta³o wiele wspania³ych filmów. Warto obejrzeæ m.in. wspania³± ekranizacjê "Rozwa¿nej i Romantycznej" z doskona³ymi rolami m.in. Emmy Thompson i Hugh Granta. Ekranizowano tak¿e "Emmê" i "Dumê i uprzedzenie".

Jane Austen, 1775-1817
The Romantic Age brought, rather paradoxically, the cool and classically shaped novels of Jane Austen, a major practitioner and still a model for apprentices in the craft. She began writing at an early age. At 15 she was writing plays and sketches for the amusement of her family, and by the time she was 21 she had begun to write novels that are among the finest in English literature. Through her portrayals of ordinary people in everyday life, Jane Austen gave the genre of the novel its modern character and became the world's first great female novelist.
Jane Austen was born the 7th of 8 children to the Reverend George Austen and his wife, Cassandra Leigh, on December 16, 1775, in the parsonage of Steventon, a village in Hampshire, England. She had 6 brothers (James, George, Edward, Henry, Francis, and Charles) and one sister, Cassandra. Her parents were both descended from ancient country families of more or less prosperous squires and professional men. This social milieu provided her with the scenes and subject matter of her work. Although she and her sister briefly attended several different schools, Jane was educated mainly by her father, who taught his own children and several pupils who boarded with the family. She received more education than most women of her time.
