The Stanley Lieberman Memorial Collection of American Juvenile Literature A Checklist Compiled by Bruce Jay Wasser (Princeton University Library. Department of Rare Books and Special Collections. 1969) How to use this checklist Each title in the Lieberman Collection is represented by a separate entry in the following checklist, and, sometimes, by cross (or X) references as well. The following sample entry
Author Title Call number Adams, William Taylor 1822-1897 Always In luck, By Oliver Optic. In the Argosy. Vol. XV, 1892-1893, pp. 155-356. Blue illus. Cloth. XV Alger, Horatio, 1832-1899. Chester Rand. May be interpreted thus: William Taylor Adam’s Always in Luck , written under the pseudonym Oliver Optic, appears in The Argosy , Volume XV, which is bound in the blue illustrated, cloth-covered boards. This volume also contains Horatio Alger’s Chester Rand , and an entry for Chester Rand is also to be found in this checklist in its proper alphabetical place within the listing of Alger’s novels and stories. The number 115 is the shelf or call number for the volume described, and should be cited as (Lieberman 115) in placing a request to have the book retrieved from the stacks. Since this checklist is only a guide to the Lieberman Collection and not a detailed bibliographical accounting, entries are brief, and no attempt has been made to conform to principles of formal bibliographic description. Generally, however, standard terms have been used in describing bindings, with the exception of the use of "paperback" and "illus. Paperback" which have been employed consistently in preference to the terms "wrapper" and "illus. wrapper."

AUTHOR INDEX TO OUR YOUNG FOLKS
Our Young Folks published works by almost every nineteenth-century writer for children, from Sophie May to Harriet Beecher Stowe; it also featured fine engravings, including a handful by Winslow Homer. While the periodical's run ended in 1873, because my interest is only in works through 1872, the last year is not indexed here. Alphabetized by author's real name (where known); use control-F to search for pseudonym. Author's birth/death dates appear after the name; titles are in alphabetical order. Number after each title is made up of the following: year.month.pages. For pieces of music, listed author wrote the words to the song. For engravings, "drawn by" is the one given credit, except in the case of Landseer and of Frederick Church. KEY: /chromo = chromolithograph; /e = engraving; /p = piece is a poem; /s = piece is music

No.17 - February 1997 It Goes On The Shelf Published at The Sign of the Purple Mouth by Ned Brooks Cover art by Taral (Taral Wayne, 245 Dunn Avenue #2111, Toronto Ont. M6K 1S6, Canada) Bill Bridget - while It Goes On The Shelf 16 was being printed - sent a 36-page printout (in color yet!) of an Avram Davidson website (http://cnj.digex.net/~pcks/henry/) that is maintained by Henry Wessells (Temporary Culture, Box 43072, Upper Montclair NJ 07043-0072). Wessells mentions Davidson's biographer, Eileen Gunn (525 19th Avenue East, Seattle WA 98112), who is cataloging Davidson's letters - I heard from Eileen Gunn shortly after Avram died, but had not heard any more. I thought I told her that I had a number of letters that I would be glad to send copies of.
Henry Wessells, who is also a John Buchan fan, says he will send me a xerox of The Power-house , which is apparently hard to find. I have never seen a copy.
Bill Bridget also sends a page of abstruse data on very expensive antique `pop-up' or three-dimensional books. I think the only thing of that sort that I have is the one Edward Gorey did a few years ago. And speaking of Edward Gorey: The World of Edward Gorey
Both the autographed and regular editions are the same price, but there are only 1000 autographed. A Gorey bibliography is long overdue, as he has published nearly 100 books and illustrated a couple of dozen more for other writers in the last 40 years - his first was in 1953. I got this from Signals at their 24-hour toll-free number for credit-card orders, 1-800-669-9696. The item number is 50251 - and I got the autographed edition.

In its relatively short existence of just over 150 years, the Smithsonian Institution has amassed a collection of over 100 million objects ranging in size and scope from microscopic insects to the Space Shuttle Enterprise
The Smithsonian's collection of Egyptian artifacts, though small, does have a number of interesting pieces. Of more interest are the supporting materials in various archival units and in the collections of Smithsonian Institution Libraries.
The National Anthropological Archives (NAA, part of the Museum of Natural History) has an extensive collection of photographs, post cards, stereoscopic views, and other images of Egypt. The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) has photographs, prints and painting of many of the more well-known travellers. Access to these collections, as well as the Libraries' online catalog, are available through the Internet.
The Libraries' collections are particularly strong in travel and voyage literature from around the world. Among the many works related to Egypt are: Pietro Martire d'Anghiera's
