Technology Keeps Moving During Hiatus: State Briefs While the past few months brought the "official" summer hiatus for schools, NETC staff together with many educators in its region continued activities to scale up the integration of technology and learning. The following highlights those activities in each state. Alaska NETC's work with the Alaska State Department of Education and AKRAC, the regional comprehensive assistance center, had identified six partner sites for the 1996-1997 school year: Chatham, Hoonah, Iditarod, Klawock, Saint Mary's and Skagway. Teams of two from these sites attended the Alaska Staff Development Network's week-long summer technology academy in Juneau. During the institute NETC staff worked with NETC partner teams to provide information and materials. Team members will convene next Spring in conjunction with the Alaska Society of Technology Educators annual technology-in-education conference. During the intervening months, technical assistance will be carried out via phone, fax, and, where possible, e-mail. A two-day workshop on Web Page Design for Hotshots was presented by NETC staff at the Juneau School District. Attendees included Juneau School District staff and Alaska Department of Education staff.

Wyoming State Library Wyoming State Library Professional Development wyoming state library training and professional development Development Grant Pool Funds Targeted for School and Special Librarians Grants, up to $500.00 will be awarded for reimbursement for library-focused activities. Examples of appropriate activities for use of these funds include: attending workshops and training events, attending professional conferences to obtain training, taking graduate level library science course work, and any other continuing education event which strengthens library staff skills and enables them to provide better library service to their library clientele. Support for storytelling workshops and for BCR workshops is also appropriate. Specifically, the award can pay for registration, lodging, meals (if overnight) and transportation (commercial or private auto at .345 cents per mile). The applicant must be a current Wyoming resident, and a Wyoming school or special library employee in good standing with 12 months employment prior to application. Applicants can submit only one applications in an 18-month period. Limitations: no funding of school librarians for their continuing accreditation as a teacher unless the course is library science, or technology; no funding for educational, medical or museum workshops which have no connection to library development; no funding for meals/food for one-day events.
