Since Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary field, when you are doing a literature search, articles will be published in any number of fields (i.e., psychology, sociology, history, literature, etc.) and hence, journals. This is what makes the search difficult, but also, ultimately much more rewarding. You can see how the issues of gender, race, class, sexuality are addressed across a variety of fields (or are not); in fact, you're forced to. Womens Issues/briefly: Education for Disability and Gender Equity The EDGE (Education for Disability and Gender Equity) is a research and development project to create a website, CD, and teacher's guides that will address the need for gender and disability sensitive high school educational materials. The proposed educational material will: - provide material on disabled men and women, disability and gender in the context of humanities and sciences courses at the high school level;
- provide visual, audio and textual representations which is accessible and relevant; and
- incorporate the input of disabled and non-disabled girls and boys, adult women with disabilities and other experts in the development and evaluation of the products. The course material will kept on the World Wide Web by the Disabled Women's Alliance to provide sustainable accessibility of the product. Join our efforts to educate high school students and teachers about disability and gender. You can: - send us resources in humanities or sciences
- identify key role models
- host a focus group in your town
- tell us about great materials (any media)
- review EDGE materials Project EDGE is a state-of-the-art research project designed to develop and evaluate accessible, multi-media educational materials in humanities and sciences which inform students about disability and gender at the high school level. By providing information about disabled women and men in the context of history, biology, civics, health and literature, students can reduce bias and increase respect of gender differences and disability related diversity. The area of equity most impacted by this project will be in promoting equal access to the sciences and humanities, creation of positive images and knowledge about people who differ by gender, race, disability or other characteristics.

Preventing Worplace Bullying
This workshop on preventing workplace bullying was conducted at the 2001 Women's Conference by Peggy Trompf from the Workers Health Centre.
WORKSHOP CONDUCTED FOR IEU WOMENS CONFERENCE AUGUST 2001 BY PEGGY TROMPF WORKERS HEALTH CENTRE SYDNEY
Incidences of workplace bullying have risen dramatically in recent times affecting most industries in most countries. International estimates tell us that between 25% and 50% of workers will experience bullying during their working lives. Applying this to the Australian scene, it can be said that in 2001 between 400,00 and 2 million workers will be harassed in this way. Evidence shows the detrimental health effects of bullying, not only on the victim, but also on those who are witnesses to the behaviours, or who have a close relationship to the victim. There is also a direct cost to the community in terms of increased workers compensation and related medical treatments. Health and safety legislation calls for employers to provide a safe and healthy workplace that's free from psychological harm, as well as physical danger. Employers are thus required to identify and control bullying behaviours, which can lead to workplace illness and injury. This workshop looks at ways workers can become aware of adverse behaviours, identify some psychological and physical indicators of health effects of bullying and discuss some methods of preventing its occurrence.
