Important Information Regardless of the status of your financial aid file, it is the student's responsibility to ensure that his or her tuition charges are paid by the appropriate deadline!
  • If you are a first-time, first-year undergraduate borrower, your first disbursement of Stafford and/or PLUS Loan funds will be delayed until 31 days into the first semester you attend at the University of Utah.
  • If you are attending one term only and receiving Stafford and/or PLUS Loan funds, the loan disbursements will be delivered in two installments (half at the beginning of the semester and half after the mid-point of the semester).
Delivery of the first disbursement of Stafford and PLUS Loan funds is dependent on timely completion of your financial aid file. Important Information concerning Pell Grant and Campus-Based Aid Your eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant and Campus-Based Aid* programs depends on your enrollment status as of the last day to add classes for each term:
  • September 3, 2002 for Fall Semester 2002.

Semester Conversion
GENERAL EDUCATION FOR TRANSITION STUDENTS
If you were enrolled that the U and completed 45 or more quarter credit hours (sophomore status) before Fall Semester 1998, you have the option of finishing under the old (quarter system) Graduation Requirements or using the new (semester system) requirements. You do not have to declare your choice of requirements until you apply for graduation, usually two semesters before you intend to do so. You can use the old system if you complete its requirements by Spring 2003. It can be very helpful to run a Degree Audit Report (DARS) for both the quarter system and the semester system to compare the programs and determine which set of requirements you would rather use. General Education courses taken on the quarter system "plug into" the semester system in the same area. For example, THEAT 101, Survey of Theater was a Fine Arts Distribution in the quarter system. If you passed this course and choose to go with the semester requirements, this class will count as a Fine Arts Intellectual Exploration course. Similarly, if you wish to continue with the quarter requirements but did not finish them before the conversion, you can substitute a semester Intellectual Education course from the same area to fill any remaining core and distribution requirements.

Access to the General Education Curriculum for Students with Disabilities
    ERIC EC Digest #E615
    Author: Pat Beckman
October 2001 A new goal is challenging teachers: All students, with or without disabilities, including English language learners and students who are "falling between the cracks," are to achieve in the general education curriculum. For students with disabilities, access to the general education curriculum is mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Amendments of 1997 (IDEA '97). Attitudes and Belief Systems Improved student learning requires teachers, schools, and districts to give up unproductive traditions and beliefs, replacing them with validated practices and a full understanding of the intent of the law. Successful student access to the general education curriculum is most likely when there is general acceptance of the following principles:
    • Responsibility for the learning outcomes of special education students is equally shared by the classroom teacher and the special education teacher.

The site provides information for students on mechanics, properties of matter, heat, sound and light, electricity and magnetism, and atomic and nuclear physics. Each chapter contains subheadings and various described links to sites that focus on that particular subject. Under momentum, for example, more than a dozen sites are included under subheadings such as impulse changes, bouncing, conservation of momentum, collisions, and momentum vectors. Other highlights of the site include links to simulations found on the Web and questions of the week, along with their answer. Even though some of the provided links were dead, the repository of information should prove useful to visitors. [JAB]
