NYMT Roster MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the New York Museum of Transportation is to collect, preserve, display, interpret, and operate artifacts and information from the transportation history of Upstate New York and surrounding area, to delight, inform and educate our visitors about their transportation heritage. This volunteer organization is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) educational institution, and gratefully accepts tax-deductible monetary donations and contributions of vehicles, artifacts, photographs and paper goods pertaining to transportation history. Just 20 minutes south of Rochester is a combination of fun and history sure to please everyone in the family from youngsters to old-timers. With rolling hills and the Genesee River valley as a backdrop, two all-volunteer museums have joined to provide an interesting and educational experience featuring transportation history of this part of New York State. Members of the organizations believe their combination of two transportation museums and a rail ride is unique in the nation! The New York Museum of Transportation houses several full size trolley cars, a caboose, antique road vehicles, and the various associated items that illuminate our transportation history. An 11' x 21' HO-gauge model railroad operates five trains and two trolleys at one time. Pump-type handcars, signs, baggage carts, diesel engine cutaways, cap badges, track tools and lots of other artifacts complement the many photo exhibits and interpretive displays. The Gallery features a rare color film of the Rochester Subway. A big hit with visitors is the trolley car from the Spaghetti Warehouse Restaurant, recently reopened for display. The visitor Center contains a display of "O" gauge models of trolley cars that once served the area, and a diorama depicting a 1930's gas station.

Go east on Milestrip before taking a right on North Buffalo Road (Route 277) where you will begin your tour of the region's flower gardens and transportation museums with a stop at the Pedaling History Bicycle Museum (3943 North Buffalo Road, Orchard Park), the largest all-bicycle museum in the world. After completing your tour of the Botanical Gardens turn left (north) onto South Park Avenue (Route 62) and proceed into downtown Buffalo. Turn right onto Michigan Avenue and go eight blocks to the corner of Seneca Street. Here you'll find the Buffalo Transportation/Pierce-Arrow Museum (263 Michigan Avenue), dedicated to the preservation of Western New York-made automobiles, motorcycles and carriages, including Pierce-Arrows and Thomas Flyers. Proceed three blocks north on Michigan Avenue to North Division Street. Take a left onto North Division and proceed across the trolley tracks of Main Street. Go four blocks to Lower Terrace. Take a left here, taking care not to make the left onto the Skyway entrance. Turn right onto Erie Street and proceed to the Erie Basin Marina, home to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park and the Fuzak Memorial Rose Garden, one of 20 test gardens throughout the United States.

Following are brief summaries of issues of concern to museums. 1. TAX POLICY: Tax-exemption is of paramount importance to museums along with deductibility of gifts, especially gifts of objects. AAM currently supports proposed a measure that would allow "non-itemizers" to take a charitable deduction as well as another measure that would allow retirees to roll over their pension funds to charities without paying penalty tax.
