National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign Multicultural Outreach The Media Campaign includes a strong, ethnically diverse outreach component targeting youth, parents and youth influencers. This Campaign is unique for several reasons: It is one of the largest advertising efforts developed by the Federal Government with messages tailored for ethnic audiences. Creative messages are based on behavioral science and are reviewed by a Behavioral Change Expert Panel composed of scientists from ethnically diverse backgrounds with experience developing behavioral change communications for ethnic audiences and target audience specialists who market to ethnic communities. The Campaign employs ten minority-owned subcontractors to coordinate the purchase of ethnic advertising and coordinate the Campaign's multicultural outreach activities. Each agency has substantial expertise in communicating with specific cultural audiences. Popular movies like Star Wars have inspired comics that feature their well-known characters, such as R2-D2. The comic strip, titled Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, debuted on January 7, 1929, with the character now called by his nickname. It ran until 1967. This 1928 issue of Amazing Stories introduced Anthony "Buck" Rogers to the world. This comic, designed by people at NASA, tells the story of Apollo 13. A group of people at NASA's Langley Research Center created a comic book called "Aero Space" in 1992 as a handout for middle school students. The goal was to educate young people concerning the career possibilities within the aerospace industry. These adventures directly inspired a number of Jules Verne's stories. Reade's helicopter airships predate Verne's Albatross by several years. Pulps and Comic Books: Popularizing Air and Space Travel Almost a half-century before humans would invent the airplane, the editors of some popular publications understood the appeal and excitement of flight and incorporated the burgeoning field of flight into their adventure fiction magazines. Filled with futuristic ideas, these publications were never meant to be educational or sophisticated. They were entertainment aimed primarily at young males, simply written and filled with illustrations. Printed on cheaply produced, wood-pulp paper, they were given the derogatory name "pulps." Comic books took this formula a step further, reducing its stories to dynamic drawings with minimal storylines. Despite their lowbrow appeal, however, pulps and comic books gave birth to the way we imagine air and space travel.

Theses and dissertations A short historical overview Astronomical research was practised in the academy at Turku since its founding in 1640. The astronomical observatory that started its operation in 1817 already had literature from two preceding centuries. When a fire destroyed most of the holdings of the university library in 1827, the observatory with its library on Vartiovuorenmäki was spared. When the university moved to Helsinki, its collections were transferred to the new observatory building that was opened in 1834 on the Ulrikaborg hill, the present day Observatory hill. The astronomical books that date back to the times in Turku were placed in the astronomical museum that was opened in the meridian hall of the observatory in connection of its 150th anniversary in 1984. Until the end of 1960s, the major part of the habitable space in the observatory building was used as the residence of the professor of astronomy. When the whole building was retrieved for institutional use, the library gained a much larger space. During that period, the until then separate Astrophysics Laboratory moved to the Observatory hill, adding to the totality of books and periodicals. At the moment, the library is again suffering from chronic lack of space, which is why its holdings are spread through the whole building and have been placed in most rooms and available spaces wherever.

"CDi" (United Kingdom) Published By Haymarket Publishing First Published August 1994 CDi was the first real consumer-aimed CD-i magazine with some issues containing a cover disc. The disc on issue 2 was the famous Valkieser demo that was originally made for CD-I WORLD, containing some of the first MPEG clips ever published. Amongst other discs was the Micro Machines demo version. They consequently spelled CD-i as CDi. The last issue was thought to be number 19, published in August 1996. The last page said: "The Next issue of CDi magazine will be published on October 3. Frequentasne hunc locum?". The Latin text means "if it will ever happen", fortunately a 20th final issue did appear in the UK which included a preview of the last CD-i game released, "Solar Crusade".
