Prayer For The Soldiers
It's the soldier not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the press.
It's the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.
It's the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is
draped with the flag, that allows the protestor to burn the flag.
"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect
us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need."
Of all the gifts you could give a U.S. soldier, prayer is the very best one. SLHS Alumni Please be patient while page loads. This site contains a ton of SURNAMES

About the South Dakota GenWeb Project:
In June, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the South Dakota Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in South Dakota, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.
At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. The person responsible for Butte County is Skip Wiest PLEASE contact him if you have a desire to add your data to the database.

    North Dakota Genealogy
The southwestern part of North Dakota became part of the United States with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, while a treaty with Great Britain brought in the northeastern section. The territory was named after the Dakota Souix who lived in the region. Scots entering from Canada formed the first permanent white settlement at Pembina in 1812. In 1861 Dakota Territory was formed, which included parts of Montana and Wyoming, both of which were formed into their own territories by 1868. Although land was available because of the Homestead Act, settlers were few until the 1870s due to Indian skirmishes and the Civil War. A boom brought new settlers in from 1878 to 1886, and by 1889 Dakota Territory was admitted to the Union as the two states of North and South Dakota. Another land boom took place around the turn of the 20th century, with new homesteads peaking in 1906. Today it is still a state of vast open prairies and rugged beauty.
