The lowland rainforest of Southeastern Peru is known as the biodiversity capital of the world. Studies by some of the world's most renowned field biologists have consistently yielded relatively higher concentrations of birds, mammals, butterflies, Dragonflies, and a high diversity of plants per unit area. One such place were most of these studies took place is the 105 ha encompassing the grounds of of Explorer's Inn. Indeed, over 500 species of birds have been recorded within this area; and to be more precise within three miles of the lodge where we will stay for several days!! Home Tours About our Tours Tour Leaders ... Contact Form Neotropical Journeys Leaders Most or our leaders have an outstanding background in the countries where they lead tours. In most cases, they have lived there for several years and their knowledge extend beyond the region's natural history. We feel that knowing the language and culture in our destinations are important aspects when leading tours, making travel arrangements and dealing with inevitable "hold ups" in some of the countries where our tours take place. Also important, is our leader's friendliness and willingness to share their knowledge of birds and natural history and to engage in lengthy conversations on aspects of the regions visited. As our clients put it: they are very knowledgeable and very accessible.
Please note however that since we asign leaders to particular tours well in advance, we reserve the right to make changes if necessary. If this happens we will ask you for your consent as early as possible. Adam Kent
A Florida native, Adam has traveled throughout the globe and is specialized in the natural history and birds of North and South America. In addition to being an entertaining person and a professional tour leader, Adam has written several technical articles and a guide to the shorebirds of Baja California. His recordings made in southern Mexico led to the description of a new species of bird, the Nava's Wren.He holds masters degrees from the University of Florida in education and natural resource conservation and is an excellent interpreter. Since 1983, Adam has been leading tours around the Americas, from the Arctic region to the Amazon.

General Located in Southeastern South America, Argentina encompasses and area of 2,780,400 sq km (1,076,311 sq miles).  The last general population census in 1997 yielded a total number of  35,672,000 Argentinians living in population density of  12.7 per sq km. Argentina is situated in South America, east of the Andes, and is bordered by Chile to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil to the north and northeast. There are four main geographical areas: the Andes, the North and Mesopotamia, the Pampas and Patagonia. The climate and geography of Argentina vary considerably, ranging from the great heat of the Chaco ( El Chaco through the pleasant climate of the central Pampas to the sub-Antarctic cold of the Patagonian Sea. Mount Aconcagua soars almost 7000m (23,000ft) and waterfalls at Iguazú stretch around a massive semi-circle, thundering 70m (230ft) to the bed of the Paraná River. In the southwest is a small 'Switzerland' with a string of beautiful icy lakes framed by mountains.

So often we read about the “artificial” divisions or names for periods in Inca and Pre-Inca history, i.e., Preceramic Period, Initial Period, etc. I don’t know if anyone else is somewhat confused by some of the Periods, their dates (which are not always constant depending on which authority you read), and what happened during that time. I’m not an expert by a long shot, but over the next few editions, I am going to try to bring some cohesion with brief summaries of the chronology of the Central Andean Region. Archaeologists and historians alike break up time into discrete units. Archaeologists divide time according to the appearance and disappearance of significant cultural developments, such as new tool types or ways of producing food. Many chronological schemes have been presented for the Andean region, but all document the same series of important cultural events. Unfortunately, the events occurred at different times in different areas, so any one scheme is hard to apply over the entire region of Tahuantinsuyu. Nevertheless, one scheme, the Rowe-Lanning chronology (named for John Rowe and Edward Lanning, the two archaeologists who developed it), is generally accepted and used. Western Andean prehistory can be divided into periods during which large areas were unified relatively quickly by some common cultural influence. In archaeological terms, this situation is called a
