New England Shipwreck Diving Since the earliest accounts of French trading ships sinking off the "Mastachusit" shore in the 1600's, thousands of ships have wrecked off the rocky shores of New England. Here, we'll present some of the ones sport divers visit. Massachusetts Board of Underwater Archaeological Resources Exempt Shipwreck List The purpose in creating an exempted shipwreck site is to preserve such sites for the continued enjoyment of the recreational diving community. "Exempted" shipwreck sites have, quite literally been exempted from the Board's permiting process. Recreational diving activities, including casual artifact collection, on these sites does not require a permit from the Board. However, any major disruption of the site is prohibited. The List of Exempt Shipwrecks is open to modification. The recreational diving community is encouraged to protect these sites for the continued enjoyment of all.
The following site reports were prepared by Christopher C. Hugo and made available to the MetroWest Dive Club , courtesy of the Massachusetts Board of Underwater Archaeological Resources
Dive related information on most of the sites is sketchy, comments from the diving community in this regard would be greatly appreciated

84. Shipwrecks Along Minnesota's North Shore Of Lake Superior
Horrific shipwrecks and terrific rescues occurred throughout the shippingseason across Lake Superior. shipwrecks are not a thing of the past.
http://www.northshorevisitor.com/shipwrecks.html
All over the Great Lakes, wooden schooners were colliding, breaking away and sinking. Others were destroyed by fire. Actually, it wasn't usually the dark, stormy nights, but the inexperienced crews that caused most of the shipping accidents in the late 1800s. Horrific shipwrecks and terrific rescues occurred throughout the shipping season across Lake Superior. Wrecks were most numerous off the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan, at ports, and in the waters surrounding Isle Royale. Much of the shipping traffic along the North Shore included passengers as well as cargo, since no roadways existed northeast out of Duluth. The Lake Superior Maritime Center, Split Rock Historical Center and the North Shore Fishing Museum in Tofte offer displays, exhibits and videos on Lake Superior's shipping activity. The quintessential shipwreck reference is Dr. Julius Wolff's The Shipwrecks of Lake Superior
June 7, 1902 - Duluth
Major shipwrecks and numerous fires, collisions and sinkings took place in the vicinity of the Duluth harbor. One of the two worst wrecks in Duluth history happened on June 7, 1902. The morning was calm and clear as the 288-foot wooden ship

    The Titanic and other Shipwrecks
    Sportdiving Shipwrecks
The titanic... the Andrea Doria... the Lusitania... the Edmund Fitzgerald... The list of doomed ships stretches from man's first efforts in rickety, little wooden rafts many centuries ago, to the mighty oceanliners of today. The logbooks and eye witness accounts of those terrible disasters tell of courage, determination, panic, fear and incredible survivals. Sometimes they even reveal the dark and deadly secrets of why some ships really sink to the bottom. Read the story of what happened when they found the Titanic. For dozens of years that tragedy was blamed primarily on the incompetence of the ships' navigators and a collision with an iceberg. But when they found the ship... And, here's a twist of irony: One of the most popular adventures for cruise ship passengers these days is a scuba diving trip to the graveyards of the sea, it's fascinating!
