NetBSD/ amiga About NetBSD/amiga NetBSD/amiga is the port of NetBSD to the Amiga line of personal computers by Commodore and Amiga International , and to the DraCo by MacroSystem GmbH . Development activity on NetBSD/amiga continues at a speed dependent on people's spare time. Currently, NetBSD/amiga runs on any Amiga that has a Motorola 68020 or better CPU with some form of MMU, and on 68060 DraCos. For 68020 and 68030 systems, a FPU is recommended but not required. 68LC040, 68040V and 68LC060 systems don't work correctly at the moment. Due to the MMU requirement, it will not run on A500, A600, A1000, A1200, A2000, A4000/EC030, CDTV or CD32 out of the box. You must install a CPU board on them to run NetBSD. The minimum RAM requirement is about 8 MB FASTMEM, the minimum hard disk space needed is about 75 MB, depending on how much system components you install. Check the install document for more details. Easily installed binary distributions of NetBSD/amiga are available for the 1.6 release

    3.1 Minimal configuration
The following is probably the smallest possible configuration that Linux will work on: 386SX/16, 1 MB RAM, 1.44 MB or 1.2 MB floppy, any supported video card (+ keyboards, monitors, and so on of course). This should allow you to boot and test whether it works at all on the machine, but you won't be able to do anything useful. See http://rsphy1.anu.edu.au/~gpg109/mem.html for minimal Linux configurations In order to do something, you will want some hard disk space as well, 5 to 10 MB should suffice for a very minimal setup (with only the most important commands and perhaps one or two small applications installed, like, say, a terminal program). This is still very, very limited, and very uncomfortable, as it doesn't leave enough room to do just about anything, unless your applications are quite limited. It's generally not recommended for anything but testing if things work, and of course to be able to brag about small resource requirements.

Detailed Description of PC Hardware Components for Online Searching:
    The Main Board
The main board of your PC is the basic platform to connect all other components. It shoud have a 486 or 586 CPU and support energy saving standards. Modern main boards offer the following bus concepts (slots to connect the extension boards to the main board):
    • AT bus EISA bus VESA local bus PCI bus
AT and PCI bus are most widely used.
    The RAM Modules
On the main board of your PC 4, 8, 16, 32 or even 64 MBytes of RAM Modules can be implemented. For use with Microsoft Windows, Windows 95 or IBM OS/2, OS/2 WARP a minimum of 16 MBytes is required.
    The CD-Rom Drive
Modern Personal Computers have a CD-Rom drive installed. It is used to install software such as STN Express.
    The Hard Disk
The operating system, the communication programs and other tools are stored on a hard disk. For the best performance of your PC, the hard disk should be able to store 300-500 MBytes of programs and data. Modern hard disks have a access time of less than 12 milli seconds and a data throughput of more than 1 MByte per second. There are different bus concepts for hard disk connection available:
    • IDE bus (requires no extra adaptor with modern 586 main boards) Enhanced IDE bus (requires no extra adaptor with modern 586 main boards) SCSI bus (most flexible, requires SCSI adaptor)

    Hardware wanted
Why do we want your old hardware?
The following list outlines hardware that the OpenBSD project could use. Some of this is being requested so that developers can improve or add driver support for devices which are rare; other requests are for hardware that will improve our development environment. In either case, we think we are being reasonable at asking for these devices. If you do not own these devices, but want to help us, we recommend you search on eBay for the devices. If you do the bidding and then get the device shipped to us, it really helps us. It's much better if our developers do not need to spend the time going through the bidding process, since any time saved can be spent on improving OpenBSD instead. As a reasonably large quantity of OpenBSD developers and users are in northern Europe we have setup a specific want list for that area. If you are in that region, go here first to check what developers close to you are in need of or want to work on support for.
