Both independently and as Chief Rose Hybridizer for the renowned Armstrong Nurseries, I have grown and tested thousands of roses over the years and developed dozens of new rose varieties that smile in gardens around the world including The White House in Washington, D.C.! Roses are a pleasure to grow and much easier than many people think! In response to countless requests for advice I have written some easy-to-understand-yet-reasonably-comprehensive rose-care Booklets and developed an inexpensive, Easy-Gardener's Rose-Care Video in association with Golden Eagle Productions. I also wrote all the information on these web pages, featuring many gorgeous Rose Photos . I hope this helps you gain greater personal satisfaction and enjoyment from roses especially Christensen roses! The Power of Gardening: Why we celebrate National Garden Month
South Burlington, VT (January, 2003) - All it takes is one person, planting tulips and zinnias in a vacant lot. The color and natural beauty cause others to stop and enjoy the view. They decide a few more flowers and maybe some shrubs would get this place on the road to looking like a real park. A meeting, some donations, and a planting day later, a green and growing place is created, and a neighborhood is resurrected. This is how gardening transforms lives. Celebrate this power during National Garden Month in April, organized by the nonprofit National Gardening Association. The efforts and contributions of gardeners were first celebrated by a 1986 Presidential proclamation creating the first National Garden Week. Under the direction of the National Garden Bureau, 23 co-sponsoring national horticultural organizations brought official recognition to what gardeners have known for centuries: gardening connects us to the earth and to other people in ways that can transform lives. Gardening touches almost every aspect of society. In urban neighborhoods gardening has been proven to reduce crime. Research shows patients who garden recover more quickly and feel more hopeful. Educators overwhelmingly report that behavioral problems diminish and responsibility flourishes in children's gardens. Gardening has been shown to improve the quality of life for elders and to decrease recidivism of prison inmates. This is the power of gardening.

Gardening Info Websites National Gardening Assn. One of the best sources of all kinds of gardening information. Their well-known national magazine, National Gardening, is no longer published. Floridata.com This beautiful website is run and was created by our friend, Jack Scheper. Jack is a tireless gardener, excellent writer, and careful archivist. A Bad Reputation Causes
Rose Sales to Droop
By E ILEEN W HITE R EED
Staff Reporter of The Wall Street Journal From The Wall Street Journal Online It was enough to make a dedicated rose lover throw in the trowel. Last year, I moved to Washington from Southern California, leaving behind 36 rose bushes and a climate where they bloomed in content nine months of the year. I planned to replace them in my new yard, but immediately, neighbors tried to talk me out of it, hauling out horror stories of black fungi, killer mildew and attacking aphids. The message was clear: It won't work here. But what about the famous White House rose garden? That doesn't count, they said, because it is tended by trained professionals, armed with an arsenal of chemicals. Even members of the tony Chevy Chase Garden Club "have pretty much given up on roses," club member Valerie Grace says. Part of the problem is commitment-phobia: Roses need more water, food and sprays not to mention, time than almost any other garden plant. "Today, there are so many people with young families and dual careers, I just don't see them taking the time to grow roses," says Lillian Biesiadecki of Newport Beach, Calif., who owns 700 rose bushes.

Climbing roses are often overlooked when planning a rose garden, yet they form an essential part of the garden architecture, offering height, individuality and screening ability. Climbing and rambling roses can add colour to bare wall, soften the lines of a patio, screen unsightly fences and garden walls, provide a backdrop to flower beds or stand alone as an accent point in a garden.

100. Approach Garden Design With Care, Whether A Backyard Or Container Garden
Information on how a garden can stimulate sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch.Category Home Gardens Resources FAQs, Help, and Tutorials...... the roses may be a cliché, but actually stepping out of a hectic routine and pausingto smell a real rose is a wonderful, calming experience. Happy gardening!
http://www.five-senses-gardening.com/
Sponsored by, Gardening and the Five Senses A garden—that is, a successful garden—should appeal to all five senses. This is true whether you’re considering five hectares of parkland or a container garden on your apartment balcony. In fact, balanced sensual stimulation is especially important in a small space, where it’s so easy for one sense to overwhelm the others. Garden design should be approached with the same care we take towards home décor.
Some of the ways in which a garden appeals to the senses are immediately apparent: the smell of flowers, the sounds of a bird chirping and the sight of a rose in bloom.
But there are several, more hidden ways in which gardens appeal to the senses. Have you ever bitten into a tomato, fresh off of the vine? Or added homegrown basil to a time-honored family recipe?
Eating your own creations tastes immeasurably better than buying them at the supermarket. Do you like the sight and sound of a Japanese fountain on a patio garden? Or the sound that water makes when it cascades over the stones in a pond?
Birdhouses and feeders are great attractions for your feathered friends, and bring delightful sounds of peeps and chirps as well as a rainbow of colors and a flurry of activity.
