"We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness Some people ask why reptiles and amphibians ? To that one might ask why a dog or cat or a bird ? If you as a dog owner answer " because I enjoy having a dog as a pet " then you just answered your own question . Reptile and amphibian keepers by and large do not keep their pets because its macho or the cool thing to do but because we enjoy having them in our lives and care for them with the love and attention many dog and cat owners give their pets . The reasons why many AR groups ( and some in government ) are asking for a ban on our hobby are very thin indeed . Salmonella can be combated by common sense sanitation practices such as keeping cages clean and washing your hands with a good anti- bacterial soap and or hand sanitizer . The AR groups ether by accident or on purpose have neglected to tell the public that . Domesticated animals can give salmonella too . But they do not bother telling anyone that because the non reptile pet is cute and furry or feathered .

For many years, the Colorado Herpetological Society maintained a large list of herp related links, from commercial suppliers to amateur herp enthusiast's personal web pages. However, the web is a rapidly changing phenomenon web pages come and vanish again with alarming frequency, and maintaining a large link list is an incredibly time consuming task. Unfortunately, I no longer have the time to keep such a list up to date, so I have pared our link list down to something I hopefully can maintain. I will try to maintain the lists of herpetological societies, particularly those with whom we exchange newsletters. For sites with large link lists, check out the " Other Sites of Interest " listed below. I have left the old list on line for those brave souls willing to plow through a lot of stale links.

I am a member of this group (The Federation of British Herpetologists) it campaigns for the freedom to own exotics and conserve reptilian species. Please support them! As it says, this is a good group- particularly if you live in Portsmouth, although it is a national, UK-wide society and publishes a monthly newsletter available to all members. Proteus is a really good organisation, it re-homes animals and offers educational courses in exotics, again they need all the support they can get!
