The photographs (left to right) are of Jack Avery, Theodore Brown, W.K-L. Dickson, and F. Martin Duncan.
More photos are below.
Jack Avery
John Gilman Avery (1873-1927), known as 'Jack', was one of Urban's closest associates, being his friend, brother-in-law and camera operator for many years. Jack Avery and Urban first met when the latter was working in a stationery store in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Urban was becoming interested in Jack's half-sister Julia, whom he later married. Urban made a promise to do for the young Avery what he could, and when he became manager of the Warwick Trading Company in Britain, he invited him to join the company, which Avery did in 1899. He was appointed cameraman and assistant manager, and became one of Urban's most reliable workers, as well as a close friend. He naturally joined Urban at the Charles Urban Trading Company in 1903, and subsequently became manager of Kineto Limited. He later joined the Trans-Atlantic Company before trading under his own name as a film broker. Joseph Baucus
"He had a charming personality and only applied himself to business, when finance had to be procured to pay for his many costly amusements and mode of living"

    Corvettes at LeMans
LE MANS, June 11, 2002 - Corvette Racing will start this year’s 70th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours as a clear favorite for victory in the production car based GTS-class. Since October 2000, America’s legendary performance icon has scored a victory in every major endurance race in the world, including an overall win in the Daytona 24 Hours and a 1-2 in class in Le Mans last year. Beginning as the underdog with its first attempt in 2000, the team has become the favorite this year, a position emphasized given its winning percentage of 100 percent in the 2002 American Le Mans Series. “The cars are visually similar to last year’s configuration,”

    http://www.grandprixmodels.co.uk/fsw/fsw1002/books.htm
    new books
In the forward John Starkey states that, while much has been written about the Corvette Grand Sports, the general history of the Chevrolet Corvette in fifty years of competition has been some what neglected. This book goes some way to filling the gaps and there are many photos of the outrageous Greenwood machines of the 1970s. But, there are gaps all over the place in this story too, most significant of which is the almost total neglect of the Callaway cars. The only mention we found, Callaway was spelt Calloway and then only referred to modified road cars. Arguably if it hadn't been for Callaway cars racing through the early and mid nineties we wouldn't have seen the C5R project come through and break the Viper's stranglehold on the GT classes in the big endurance races. This could have been so much better.
We had a feeling that the title of this book was familiar when announced and now we know why. Originally published by MBI in 1999 we have the hard bound edition in our library! The text is very well written and tells of the history of racing at Bonneville from the record attempts of the early 20th century up to the 'speed weeks' of the late 1990s. Throughout there are plenty of excellent period photos and most of those from the 1950s onwards are in colour. If you already have the previous edition then obviously you don't need this, but if you're interested in speed record breaking or hot-rodding and missed out before then this is a must have.
