Dinosaur origami
This is a starting collection of photo's of Origami folds of Dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. I fold these models, using directions from different books, make a photo of them with the camera of my SGI workstation, and put them on the website. Apologies for poor quality of pictures, and in some cases, the folds have small errors (which are usually not visible due to the poor quality of the photo.) Folds are classified with respect to the book they are taken from. See also:

WHEN IS A "DINOSAUR" NOT A DINOSAUR It surprises people to learn that eleven animals at Dinosaur World are not dinosaurs. Many of them resemble dinosaurs, and the better-known ones, such as Dimetrodon , are included in many books about dinosaurs. Actually, dinosaurs themselves are not dinosaurs , because that name means literally "terrible lizards," and scientists now do not consider dinosaurs to be very lizard-like. One of the major distinguishing characteristics of dinosaurs is that they walk with their legs straight down, not out to the side (as if doing push-ups) like modern lizards ( below ) and alligators ( right To be considered a dinosaur, an animal must be an extinct reptile that had scales, laid eggs, and did not walk with the push-up posture. Scientists say that dinosaurs lived in the Mesozoic Era , which began 225 million years ago at the end of the Paleozoic Era , and ended 65 million years ago with the dawn of our Cenozoic Era The Mesozoic Era is divided into three periods: Triassic Jurassic , and Cretaceous The following Mesozoic animals lived in the same era as the dinosaurs, but they are classed as different types of animals:

There are a huge number of sites that describe or relate to prehistoric animals and particularly dinosaurs. This links page is designed to be used in conjunction with REMedia's Prehistoric Animals CD-ROM disk. The CD-ROM contains many animations, movies and interviews that are either not available on the Internet or take a painfully long time to download with a 28.8K modem. Several of the sites listed below have information on many different aspects of prehistoric animals and the evolution of life on Earth. Once in one of these sites, you'll probably want to spend some time browsing around. Be warned, however, that some sites have areas for both the layperson and the scientist. If you suddenly find yourself on a page that seems very complex, just hit the back button on your browser. Exploring the Internet is a voyage of exploration, and you'll probably find a lot of extra links that are not mentioned here. Happy hunting!
When we look around us, we see a variety of different animal groups, from fish to birds, from tiny insects to huge mammals like the elephant and blue whale. These animals were not always on the Earth, however. When our planet was first born, it was too hot and inhospitable a place for any animal or plant to live. In the billions of years since the Earth cooled down, the climate and geology of our planet have stabilized, and the amazing variety of animals and plants that we see today have gradually evolved.

26. Prehistoric Animals - REMedia Zoology Guides CD-ROM Volume 9
Hundreds of color pictures of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals (all ofwhich can be printed in color). Over 30 minutes of video and animations.

Grades 4-8
Produced in collaboration with the Los Angeles Natural History Museum, Los Angeles, California Prehistoric Animals charts the evolution of animal life, from the strange fossils found in the Ediacaran Hills of Australia through the magnificent dinosaurs right up to the amazingly well-preserved saber-toothed cats and mastodons of the La Brea Tarpits. This CD-ROM documents the evolutionary advances made by the major animal groups and shows that although the dinosaurs were an important part of Earth's history, they are just a part of the exciting story of the prehistoric life on our planet.
Use the Prehistoric Animals Database to research nearly ANY species of prehistoric animal that ever lived!
Click on photographs to view enlarged images, and print the photographs in full color!
Animations show important processes, for example how early life forms appeared.
Grades 4-8
All chapters have cartoon movies - but you can only view them if you get the chapter quiz correct!

Prehistoric animals represent the vast majority of extinct animals. Thru Paleontological exploration, scientists are slowly piecing together evolution from the fist sea dwelling organisms to present day species. courtesy of FWMSH Archaeopteryx (ARK-e-OP-ter-ix) considered to be the first bird. It is a bird because it had feathers. However, it retained many dinosaurian characters which are not found in modern birds, at the same time, having certain characters found in birds but not in dinosaurs. Archaeopteryx is an example of a trasition between dinosaur to bird. It lived in the Late Jurassic period, about 150 million years ago. Quetzalcoatlus (KET-sal-ko-AHT-lus) a pterosaur with a forty-foot wingspan, is the biggest animal ever to fly under its own power. It was the size of a jet fighter. It lived at what is now Big Bend, Texas, near the end of the Cretaceous Period, and went extinct at the same time as the big dinosaurs. For millions of years both pterosaurs and birds existed on Earth, but now pterosaurs are gone and birds fill the skies. Quetzalcoatlus may have eaten carrion like a vulture, or perhaps it plucked mollusks from the mud of river floodplains with its beak.

OLD DINOSAUR BOOKS!
I know it doesn't seem to bear the slightest relationship to the rest of this page . But I love old dinosaur books. It's just a hobby of mine. Whenever I see any old, scientifically out of date books about dinosaurs, I grab 'em. The more inaccurate the better! I know dinosaurs were actually real animals but I love it when dinosaurs are depicted as outlandish, horrible monsters. I've developed quite a little collection. Since there is absolutely nothing on the web as far as I've been able to see about this, it is my duty to supply it! If you know anything about these books, please feel free to write me. I'd love to hear from you. 01 EUSTHENOPTERON (Greek:'strong fin')
The ancestors of the four-legged land vertebrates are to be found among the fleshy-finned fishes. The only surviving fleshy-fins, however, are the famous coelacanth (Latimeria) of the Indian Ocean and three genera of lungfish, all of which are cousins of the land vertebrates rather than their ancestors. More typical was Eusthenopteron from the Upper Devonian (350 million years ago) of North America and Europe. This carnivorous fresh-water fish, 1-2 feet long, had lobe like fins with strong muscular bases, nostrils which opened into the mouth and primitive lungs. In times of drought It could crawl on land from pool to pool in search of water and food. 02 ICHTHYOSTEGA (Greek: 'fish roof')
Half-way from fleshy-finned fish to amphibian was lchthyostega, 3 feet long, from rocks of eastern Greenland laid down in fresh water at the end of the Devonian period (345 million years ago). It still had a tail-fin like that of a fish and a remnant of the bones covering the gill-chamber but it is considered to be the earliest known amphibian because of the well developed limbs and limb girdles which are essentially those of a land animal, and the backbone was strengthened to support its weight when out of water. lchthyostega was probably truly amphibious in its habits. 03 ERYOPS (Greek: 'long face')
This was a typical member of the labyrinthodonts, the large amphibians of the Carboniferous, Permian and Triassic. Eryops itself lived in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico in Early Permian times (about 260 million years ago). It was a large, bulky animal, 5-6 feet long, which probably lived a truly amphibious life like that of modern crocodiles; the rather flattened head, armed with big teeth, suggests that it was a fish-eater. The backbone and other parts of the skeleton were very strongly built; it crawled slowly and awkwardly on its belly, pushing with its short bent legs. Bony nodules in the leathery skin formed a heavy armour.
