Advanced Study Pattern
The Advanced Study Pattern is the traditional physics degree. It is designed for those that intend to pursue advanced study in physics, engineering or other scientific or technical fields. The Advanced Study Pattern includes the usual advanced courses in mechanics, electricity and magnetism, statistical physics and quantum mechanics. While this course of study is primarily intended for students heading for careers as university professors or research physicists, one glance at our list of graduates makes clear that the doors will be open to a wide variety of professions. In addition to the traditional careers, our graduates have become CEO's of major corporations, computer scientists, nuclear arms control experts, industrial technologists, environmental scientists, agricultural consultants and cinemagraphic technicians. Completing the Advanced Study Pattern will give you the training and skills to use the fascinating insights of physics to explore a wide variety of career paths. Lower-Division Requirements:

80. An Acoustic Hemostasis Device For Advanced Trauma Care
The project is a multidisciplinary effort combining the expertise of scientists and engineers from University of Washington¹s Applied physics Laboratory, Departments of Radiology, Anesthesiology, Bioengineering, and Surgery.

An
Acoustic Hemostasis Device
for
Advanced Trauma Care A Revolutionary Advance in the Treatment of Severe Trauma Wounds Internal hemorrhaging, however, is difficult to diagnose. It presents no easily identifiable symptoms. In addition, even if it was possible to identify a casualty suffering internal hemorrhaging, the next difficulty lies in identifying where the hemorrhage site is located. Finally, even if the hemorrhage site is identified, there is presently no non-invasive means of stopping an internal hemorrhage. In emergency rooms, physicians open the patient to arrest the bleeding. On the battlefield, however, this is not a viable option. The difficulties associated with treating battlefield hemorrhaging are therefore:
  • Being able to properly identify those victims with internal hemorrhaging Being able to determine the location of the hemorrhage site Being able to treat the hemorrhage non-invasively
The Acoustic Hemostasis Project proposes to solve these problems. A false color image of the measured pattern of a focused transducer.
Note the small and well defined focal zone which will enable precise
internal acoustic energy delivery and internal cauterization.
