Pets in Campgrounds
Pets have not been permitted in Pennsylvania State Park campgrounds for many years. In the summer of 2002, ten state parks are going to allow pets in a trial program. Well-mannered house pets and caged pets will be able to stay in campgrounds with their responsible owners. Go to pets in campgrounds for more information.
Planning Your Trip
What type of camping do you prefer? Two state parks offer backpacking, three state parks offer tent camping only, and 50 state parks offer camping for most types of camping equipment. Some campgrounds have electric hookups and showers, while some are rustic. Some campgrounds have walk-in sites to give more privacy. Use the Campground Locations and Facilities page to help you pick the state park campground that is perfect for you. Most campsites are available through advance reservations. Although not required, reservations are recommended. Because most campsites are available for reservation, it is important to plan the length of your vacation. On your departure date, you will have the option to lengthen your stay if another party has not reserved your campsite. If someone else has reserved the site, you will have to move to another campsite or if the campground is full you will have to depart as originally planned.

State Trails Plan
... Links W hat is the Recreational Trails Program?
The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is a Federal-aid assistance program to help States provide and maintain recreational trails for both motorized and non motorized recreational trail use. The program provides funding for all kinds of recreational trail uses, such as pedestrian uses (hiking, running, wheelchair use), bicycling, in-line skating, equestrian use, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, off-road motorcycling, all-terrain vehicle riding, four-wheel driving, or using other off-road motorized vehicles. Each state develops its own procedures to solicit projects from project sponsors, and to select projects for funding, in response to recreational trail needs within the State. W ho administers the Recreational Trails Program? Nevada State Parks administers the RTP in Nevada. Each year the Federal Highway Administration distributes funds to each state based on gasoline tax revenue from registered off-road vehicles in the state. In 2002, Nevada received approximately 0.6% of the total apportionment or $666,161. Nevada State Parks is allowed to use 7% of the total apportioned funds for administration; this funding enables Nevada State Parks to staff one full-time position to manage the RTP in Nevada. About the Program
Who administers the Recreational Trails Program in Nevada?

Nevada State Parks administers the RTP in Nevada. Each year the Federal Highway Administration distributes funds to each state based on gasoline tax revenue from registered off-road vehicles in the state. In 2002, Nevada received approximately 0.6% of the total apportionment or $666,161. Nevada State Parks is allowed to use 7% of the total apportioned funds for administration; this funding enables Nevada State Parks to staff one full-time position to manage the RTP in Nevada.
How are the funds distributed?
Nevada State Parks distributes the RTP funds each year through a competitive grant process. The FHWA requires that 30% of the funds be used to fund motorized projects, 30% for non-motorized projects, and 40% for diversified projects. The RTP is a reimbursement program; successful project sponsors must pay the approved costs up front and apply for reimbursement demonstrating proof of payment for each request for reimbursement. Cash advances are not given. How much money is available?

A nature-lover's paradise, this 8,000-acre park is famous for the exceptional beauty of its fall colors and for its bald eagles during the winter. In addition to enjoying the spectacular view of the Illinois River and its backwaters from several points atop the bluffs, visitors can take advantage of a variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including horseback riding, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, and boating. Pere Marquette's Visitor Center, opened in October 1997, welcomes you with a three-dimensional map of the park, a 300-gallon aquarium, and wealth of other displays and exhibits concerning the Illinois River, wildlife habitat, local history, and geology. History The history of Pere Marquette State Park centers around that of the Illinois River. The forces that formed the river can be traced to ancient glaciers that pushed their way down over most of Illinois, but stopped just short of the park land. In the path of the glaciers and their meltwaters, a rich network of streams and rivers were formed, and tons of soil and bedrock were ground to dust which rose and blew up against the hillsides. These ancient layers of wind-blown soil, called Loess (pronounced "less") can be seen along the roads and trails of Pere Marquette.
