Contact Us Wildlife Rehabilitation/Pre-Veterinary Science (Biology Major) The Wildlife Rehabilitation/Pre-Veterinary Science Concentration is designed for those students with a career interest in providing health care to wildlife or domesticated animals. The concentration provides an undergraduate several structured intern and clinical opportunities to work with injured and sick animals, as well as providing a strong academic background as a preparation for graduate work in Veterinary School. The Wildlife Rehabilitation/Pre-Veterinary Science Discipline H umans share this planet with a vast number of other species of plants and animals. Many individuals feel a sense of responsibility towards these fellow species. This discipline offers such students the opportunity to become intimately familiar with the care, needs and behavior of wild and domesticated vertebrates. Wildlife rehabilitation is the treatment and temporary care of injured, diseased and displaced indigenous wildlife and the subsequent return of healthy animals to appropriate habitats in the wild. Veterinary Medicine focuses primarily on restoring and maintaining the health of domesticated animals. The program has two general objectives; [1] to provide students with clinical opportunities to work with animals and [2] to integrate the experiential, clinical aspect of the program with a rigorous academic program.

  • BIRDNET The Ornithological Information Source
This is the website of The Ornithological Council, a public information organization founded by seven North American professional ornithological societies to provide a unified and co-ordinated voice on issues of interest to ornithology. The site provides links to the major scientific ornithological organizations in North America, along with useful general information (careers and graduate opportunities in ornithology) and professional information (The Ornithological Newsletter On-Line contains announcement of meetings, job notices for research assistants, etc.).
  • CORNELL LAB OF ORNITHOLOGY
The Laboratory of Ornithology at Cornell University has been a focal point of ornithology in North America for over half a century. Its website contains a wide variety of useful and interesting information.
  • SMITHSONIAN MIGRATORY BIRD CENTER
The Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center is part of the famous Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, focussing on research, education and training, and policy work related to bird migration. One of its goals is to clarify the causes for declines in migratory bird populations before the situation becomes desperate. Highlights of this site are the "Fact Sheets" relating to various aspects of bird migration (e.g. "Why migratory birds are crazy for coffee") and the Bird of the Month feature.

EDUCATION
Youth and General Education Programs
Education is the common thread of all ABA activities. Birders learn from the pages of Birding, Winging It, and North American Birds ; from activities at our conferences and conventions; and through our interactive website. The American Birding Association began offering education programs to its members in 1993. Our education offerings have since grown and diversified. On these web pages, you will find details of ABA's Education programs. ABA/IFO Workshop Program The ABA/IFO Workshop program continues to develop as our flagship education offering since we inherited it from Charles Duncan and the University of Maine at Machias in 2000. We have a wide-ranging schedule of twelve workshops set for 2003; several address brand-new topics, including bird field study methods and citizen science. You can get full details from the ABA/IFO workshop pages as well as register online..
