A simple HTML document which covers a single topic is likely to consist of a dozen related files, and one which covered the material in a normal textbook would require hundreds of files if the document is to be at all managable by the reader. If you create a separate directory for each HTML project, you will not be in the embarassing situation of not knowing which files belong to which document. The greater the level of detail in a document, the further down the directory tree it should be located. The directory levels are similar to the indices of a traditional outline. The title of the document corresponds to the root directory of the project. The capital Roman Numeral indices correspond to the subdirectories of that directory. The capital letters correspond to yet another level of subdirectories, and so on. Once you have created an outline, creating your directory structure should be almost a mechanical matter.
