1. Common Definitions And Terms In Organic Chemistry
Explains the main terms used in this field. Listed alphabetically.
http://www.brunel.ac.uk/depts/chem/definit/definit.htm
Common Definitions and Terms in Organic Chemistry
These definitions are the preferred ones to be used in Organic Chemistry. Note that some terms (such as configuration) have more than one interpretation. acid an agent able to produce positively charged hydrogen ions (H ). [Since the hydrogen ion is a bare proton, it usually exists in a solvated form (such as H O achiral not chiral. A compound (or object) that is superimposible on its mirror image. For example CH activation energy the miminmum energy which reacting species must possess in order to be able to form an 'activated complex', or 'transition state', before proceeding to the products. [The activation energy ( Ea ) may be derived from the temperature dependence of the reaction rate using the Arrhenius equation.] addition reactions reactions in which an unsaturated system is saturated or part saturated by the addition of a molecule across the multiple bond.[ E.g . the addition of bromine to ethene to form 1,2-dibromoethane] alkaloid organic substances occurring naturally, which are basic, forming salts with acids. The basic group is usually an amino function.

    http://www.dartmouth.edu/academia/chem/chemexp
    Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Laboratory Experiments
    Reactions on Supported Reagents
This posting is a cooperative effort between the University of Wyoming and Dartmouth College. The experiments were developed in the Chemistry Department at the University of Wyoming under the direction of Dr. David A. Nelson and will be user tested by Dr. James J. Worman of Rochester Institute of Technology. Posting was accomplished through the guidance and cooperation of Dr. Joseph BelBruno of the Chemistry Department at Dartmouth. The written descriptions are designed to contain only minimal experimental details. This was done to allow the instructor and the student to participate more fully in the development of the experiment. Theory is not included in the write-up and need to be supplemented from an organic laboratory manual or text.

    http://www.heptune.com/chemtale.html
    Sizzling Organic Chemistry Dramas!
    by Brenna Lorenz
    Electrophilic Addition
(A Molecular Drama) Characters : Secondary carbon (Sec) is sharing four electrons with Primary Carbon (Prim) to form a propene molecule. Along comes a hungry electrophilic Hydrogen (Hyd) who is bonded to an electron-hogging Chlorine (Chlor). Hyd : Oh, look at all those electrons on that propene!
Chlor : What's with you? Aren't my electrons good enough for you?
Hyd : (disgusted) Your electrons. That's the whole trouble with you. They're our electrons, you pig!
Prim : Hi, Hydrogen! Nice nucleus!
Chlor : You keep your electrons away from my Hydrogen's nucleus!
Hyd : (to Propene) Would you share your electrons with little old me?
    Prim and Sec : Yes!
Hyd : (Shoving electron pair at Chlorine) Here! Keep your precious electrons! I'm going to bond with someone who appreciates me.
(Hydrogen grabs one of the electron pairs shared by Secondary and Primary Carbons, and after a brief struggle, Secondary lets go, leaving Hydrogen bonded to Primary.)
Sec : Help! I'm a carbocation! Someone give me some electrons, quick! (Spots Chlorine.) Hey, you've got electrons to spare. Share them with me.

    19. Scitutor.com -- Online Science Tutorials
A series of tutorials for organic chemistry at present. The site is under development.
    http://www.scitutor.com/
Detecting necessary software... please be patient. If nothing happens after 15 seconds, Please CLICK HERE Scitutor, developed by a team of leading professors, enables students to master the concepts and problem solving necessary to succeed in Organic Chemistry. Every key concept is presented in it's own tutorial, using animations that allow you to visualize molecules in 3-D and learn the "how-to" of solving problems. To insure that you have successfully mastered concepts and problem solving, Scitutor has an easy-to-use drawing tool that allows students to practice drawing molecules. SciTutor offers a variety of subscription options that are a far better value than the cost of a private tutor. And unlike a private tutor, SciTutor is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We know how important it is to succeed in Organic Chemistry. With SciTutor, the odds of success are on your side. Successful passage through college science courses requires students to perceive the 3-dimensional characteristics of reacting molecules and to develop problem-solving techniques. Most students cannot interpret the 2-D drawings in textbooks. In addition, students must independently discover how to solve problems. Most students do not deal well with independent exploration and therefore rely on the a. assistance of private tutors.

    20. Organic Reaction Quizzes And Summaries
Designed to assist organic chemistry students in the review of the basic reactions.
    http://www.towson.edu/~sweeting/orgrxs/reactsum.htm
    Organic Reaction Quizzes and Summaries
You may use these summaries and problems but you may NOT download them for use at another site, nor may you charge for access to them: they are the property of the authors and Towson University.
The summaries and quizzes which can be selected below are designed to assist organic chemistry students in the review of the basic reactions; they are similar to the summaries in the text and include references to it. We have chosen to use specific examples, rather than R-group notation, so that you will see the reactions in context in a real, but simple, molecule. Note that every reaction should occur twice in this summary, once under "reactions" and once under "synthesis" ; for your convenience, the functional groups are separated into semester groups, but some reactions may occur once in each. Reactions for which the mechanism or stereochemistry is an important part of your learning have Mechanism! or Stereochemistry! highlighted. Study hints by this professor and a successful Towson University student ; hints provided for a Biochemistry course also apply since the skills are the same.
