State Government next Source: Legislative Fiscal Office Oregon has a two-year, or biennial budget. Each budget begins July 1 of odd-numbered years and lasts for two years. Oregon law requires all governments- state and local- to balance their budgets. How does state government's budget work? The state receives money from a variety of sources, which are grouped into 'funds.' These funds are known as the General Fund, Lottery Fund, Federal Funds, and Other Funds. The total Legislatively Adopted Budget for the 2001-2003 biennium was $34.053 billion. This was a 15.3 percent increase over 1999-2001 total estimated expenditures of $29.525 billion. The General and Lottery Fund part of the budget amounted to $11.974 billion. At the end of the Fifth Special Session in September 2002, this had been reduced to $10.637 billion, for a reduction of 11.2 percent. This reduction assumed that the temporary income tax increase referral would pass. General Fund In 1990, voters approved Ballot Measure 5. This reduced property tax rates, especially for schools, and shifted much of the responsibility for funding public schools to the state's General Fund. The 2001-2003 Legislatively Adopted Budget had $6.7 billion, or 56.4 percent of the General and Lottery Funds being spent on education.

General Information The Hood River County School District is a county-wide system located in the scenic Columbia River Gorge , (America's first and largest national scenic area) serving 3766 students in five elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one K-12 school. Dear Duck Fans, For starters, thanks for sending in questions throughout the summer. Various NCAA and Pac-10 meetings, as well as the Autzen Expansion, have made the summer a busy one for me. Below are a smattering of questions that I am able to get to at this time. Secondly, I get a lot of the same questions, week after week, so let me address a two of them: Baseball won’t be reinstated here at Oregon. I must get a question a week asking me why we don’t support a team. We’re the only Pac-10 school that doesn’t have baseball, which was dropped in 1981 because of budget and Title IX issues. We need to add women’s sports, not men’s sports, and we’re looking into adding a women’s program in the near future. Another popular question I’m asked pertains to a new arena. In late August, we’re going to conduct a feasibility study that will look at a number of variables in regards to a new facility. That’s a positive step for us and quite similar to the process we went through when we considered the Autzen Expansion. This will be a good first step and an indication that we’re serious about the construction of a new arena.
