    NORMANDALE
    • Location: South off hwy 24 just east of Turkey Point, 15 min. west of Port Dover on north shore of Lake Erie.
    • Interesting sites: Nestled within the village are four "century homes". The Post Office and Union Hotel date back to the early to mid-1800's.
    • Samuel MASON settled the area as far back as 1818 and started "the Big Furnace" where much of Ontario and area ironware was made. Joseph VanNorman followed, as did others, to work in the furnace. Many of the items manufactured here can be seen at the Eva Brook Donly Museum in Simcoe.
    • Named after Joseph VanNorman, this communittee was once one of the most important places in the county, with its large quantities of bog iron ore.
    • Once known as "Potter's Creek" after pottery which once was located here.
      added notes:
Eva Brook Donly Museum is located at 109 Norfolk Street S., Simcoe.

If you have access to a road map of Ontario, locate Toronto, our Province's Capital and principal city, and then travel north east along the north shore of Lake Ontario. When you've located the town of Trenton, draw an imaginary line northward toward Bancroft. From Bancroft extend your imaginary line almost due easterly toward the City of Ottawa, our Nation's Capital, which is located on the Ottawa River. In a generalized sense, everything south and east of this imaginary line, between the Ottawa River on the north and the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario on the south are included in the area that we normally designate as eastern Ontario. The following Counties fall within the eastern Ontario area:
    and Ottawa/Carleton.

After you get past the "Do you want English or French?" splash page, you'll get to a main page that's divided into several sections, including History, Mystery, and Links. On the left frame of the page you'll see a listing of over 1,000 photographs in alphabetical order, which is one of the design-nerviest things I've ever seen. Since it was all text it didn't add a lot to load time.
If you don't want to browse over 1,000 photographs in alphabetical order with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each waitwaitwait. Sorry. There are no circles. There are no arrows. There are no paragraphs on the back of each one. Instead there is a search engine at the top if you don't want to browse the photographs. Pictures include a 1914 picnic, mines, railroad cars, and aerial views. Photographs open in the main frame and include a decent-sized copy of the photograph and a variety of information about it.
On to the other sections. The history tab includes a brief history of Thunder Bay. Mysteries provides a list of 38 mystery photographs (in the left frame again) and the link list provides a short, non-annotated list of links to relevant sites.

    Introduction
The Purpose of The Ontario Curriculum: Social Studies, Grades 1 to 6; History and Geography, Grades 7 and 8, 1998
Students graduating from Ontario schools require the knowledge and skills gained from social studies and the study of history and geography in order to function as informed citizens in a culturally diverse and interdependent world and to compete in a global economy. They also need to develop attitudes that will motivate them to use their knowledge and skills in a responsible manner. The Ontario Curriculum: Social Studies,Grades 1 to 6; History and Geography, Grades 7 and 8, 1998 The focus of teaching and learning in the social studies, history, and geography curriculum is on the development of essential knowledge and skills. Students must develop a thorough knowledge of basic concepts that they can apply in a wide range of situations. They must also develop the broad-based skills that are vital to success in the world of work: they must learn to evaluate different points of view and examine information critically to solve problems and make decisions on a variety of issues.

        Proposed Imaging Network Ontario
This initiative is in response to a request by the Ontario Research Development Challenge Fund (ORDCF) for assistance from the Ontario imaging research community. A plan, or blueprint , was requested which assisted the ORDCF in harmonizing their investments in imaging research. The following thoughts represented a draft proposal designed to guide and focus discussions on opportunities for imaging research within this context. The primary authors were Aaron Fenster and Mike Bronskill , and the document arose from discussions within a committee chaired by Barry Hobbs. It was intended for wide and open circulation within the Ontario imaging research community and an open meeting took place on January 12, 2000, at the Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
IMAGING BLUEPRINT PLANNING PROCESS (Strategic Plan)
Steps to achieving our objectives required the following:
      • Consensus on INO Objectives
      • Consensus on Review Process The review process shall be open, responsive, and conducted at an international level. INO will assist ORDCF in establishing an external Imaging Review Board of highly respected international scientists and industrial representatives to review imaging proposals and to advise the ORDCF Board on funding decisions. Written reviews of all proposals will be provided to applicants.

      1.0 Introduction
In medical imaging, the information revolution is changing the way in which images are acquired, processed, manipulated, compared and enhanced in order to extract new information for a wide variety of applications. The expanding capabilities of imaging and computational technologies will enable integrated visualization of multi-modalities, multiple dimensions, physiological function, and pharmacological response. These advances will support powerful tools, providing greater understanding of the structure and function of normal and diseased tissues, improved diagnosis of pathology, better monitoring of therapeutic response, as well as providing new therapeutic techniques with real-time visualization. In addition to technology improvements, advances in biotechnology and changes in health care delivery will also change the way imaging technologies are used. These changes have created opportunities, stimulating the formation of many new knowledge-based companies in the industrialized world. In Ontario, these technological changes represent a unique opportunity for us to bridge university-based publicly funded research with an embryonic private sector in imaging technology.
