Projects Using the Database
The Children's Picture Book Database at Miami University (CPBD@MU) has assisted professionals in education and health to improve literacy. A few of these projects are described below. If you would like to add one of your projects to this page, please contact us by clicking on our name at the bottom of any page. Reach Out and Read (ROR) Reach Out and Read (ROR) is a national literacy and health program which involves volunteers reading to children, ages six months to five years, while waiting in the pediatrician's office for their well-child checkups. One location in southwest Ohio has been using the Children's Picture Book Database at Miami University to select stories with health-related storylines so children and their parents are exposed to health promoting literature. Literature Links for Nutrition and Health Project P.U.S.H. Project P.U.S.H. aims to encourage health education faculty in teacher education programs to use the Children's Picture Book Database at Miami University as a tool for teaching and learning. Preservice teachers need multidisciplinary resources that align all eight disciplines on equal footing.

"It was such a pleasure as a presenter to work at a seminar that was so well organized. Rarely does a host organization put so much effort into making my stay so relaxing and comfortable. The result of being comfortable is that I can give all my energy to the seminar, and not worry about hotels, rooms, food, and the participants themselves. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into making this seminar so successful. I hope that our paths will cross again in the not too distant future.
