The Microbe Zoo is available on CD-ROM
The major attractions of this Microbe Zoo include:
DirtLand
Microbes inhabit almost every niche you can think of, from 20 miles beneath the Earth's surface to 20 miles overhead. They live at temperatures less than -20 degrees Celsius to temperatures hotter than the boiling point. Microbes thrive on a huge range of foods including oil and toxic wastes. Animal Pavilion
Most animals interact with microbes in important ways, and all animals, as well as all plants and fungi, depend on microbes for their survival. Snack Bar
Without microbes, eating would be a boring pastime. Many foods, including cheese, chocolate, tea, bread, root beer, and many others are processed by microbes. Explore this environment to find out what microbes you have been eating! Space Adventure
The Space Adventure pavilion has three main themes: speculation about extraterrestrial life and the forms that it might take, attempts to use microbes in creating closed-cycle ecosystems to support future space stations and lunar bases, and microbes in the atmosphere. Microbes relevant to these three themes will be featured in the Space Adventure pavilion.

Transportation Water Urban Land Use ... Ethical Treatment of Animals As Greens we understand humans are but one part of the ecosystem with a unique responsibility. That responsibility is to develop an understanding of environmental sustainability and to live and promote those practices that support it. Ecologically sound principles of living can guarantee protection for the Earth and all its people. Our commitment to ecological wisdom leads us to take natural systems as a model for human interaction. The interconnectedness of all things has helped us to realize that our practices of generating waste separate us from natural systems; in nature degraded matter is decomposed and returned to the web of life as nutrients. Our commitment to environmental justice has helped us to understand that in a closed system we all live downstream and downwind. Of special importance is the need to rectify the practice of toxic racism.
Nature uses and reuses everything through continual recycling. We should pattern our use of resources after nature in sustainable cycles.
California alone produces more waste than the whole of China. We squander our resources through wasteful practices like excessive packaging, and throw away useful resources by burying them in massive and useless landfills.

What is Physical Geography? 1. Fundamental questions of physical geography So, what is Physical/Environmental Geography about? If you think about the world we live in (the material aspect of the world, to be specific), you'll probably agree that it may be roughly divided into (1) things of natural origin, and (2) things of cultural origin, i.e. created by people. Natural things are also called physical (in the broad sense, meaning non-human) or environmental. One way to answer the question above physical geography is about the physical elements of our world: landforms, soils, rivers, air masses, ecosystems, and so on. The problem with this definition is that every major environmental phenomenon is also studied by its own respective branch of science. Indeed, as the table below shows, landforms are the subject of geomorphology, weather is studied by meteorology, oceans and rivers - by hydrology, etc. Physical Elements of the Environment Science Rocks Geology Landforms Geomorphology Soils Pedology Flora, Fauna

Reading: Campbell et al. (1999), pp. 1026-1052 Ecology is the study of how organisms interact with their environment. Each and every organism interacts with the environment and affects the environment in certain ways. Every biological entity has an environmental effect. Variety of Ecological Studies:
    • Organismal ecology refers to the study of behavioral, physiological, and morphological ways in which individual organisms handle the abiotic factors in the environment. Population ecology is based on studies of population size and growth and composition. A population is a group of individuals of the same species. Community ecology examines the interactions between organisms in a community and includes predation, competition, and disease. Ecological communities are defined as different neighboring species that may interact with one another. Ecosystem ecology is the study of the abiotic factors and the species living within the ecosystem. Research questions relate to energy flow nutrient cycling productivity
    Classes of Environmental Factors:
    • Abiotic : The physical and chemical attributes of the environment.
