ANNUAL EVENTS
DECEMBER/JANUARY Annual New Year's Eve Sobriety Pow Wow:
Cloe 2001 Sobriety Queen This event is held each year in Chiloquin Oregon on New Years Eve weekend. This event encourages family and friends to bring in the new year without drugs and alcohol. We celebrate with Indian dancing, drumming, a free feed, door prizes, friendly games, arts and crafts, a huge raffle, and much much more. Everyone is invited to attend. For more info; call 1-800-524-9787- Taylor David Ext. 147 MARCH Annual Return of /c'wam Ceremony; Held each year after the first snow in March, in Chiloquin, Oregon. Each year the /c'wam/ (also known as the Lost River Sucker) swims up the Spraque River to spawn. Snowflakes fall at this time of year heralding the /c'wam's/ return. The evening sky also reveals that the fish constellation, (three stars in line making "Orion's Belt"), begins to appear on the southwestern horizon. Our traditions state that watchmen or /swaso.llalalYampgis/ were placed along the riverbanks to see exactly when the fish would return. The head "shaman" would then give thanks for their return to the Indian people. The last known shaman to perform the ceremony was Lee Snipes - Captain Sky, perhaps in the early 30's. By continuing this ceremony the Klamath Tribes are ensuring the survival of both a species and our Tribal traditions.

Not Knitting
So, where's all the knitting? What happened to those lovely blue yarns ? I swear I'm in a knitting slump right now. My blue yarn really knit up wonderfully. Really, it did...except that despite everything - swatching, adjusting the pattern, etc - the stole I made with it came out so long a giantess could wear it. I actually knitted it almost twice - the first time it was obviously coming out much too short, so I ripped it out and started over. I wish I'd just left well enough alone. I think that maybe this pattern just isn't for me, and I'll have to find something else to do with the yarn. Meaning I've got to rip it again. I don't have the heart to do that now, so I'm just going to let it sit for a bit. I'm also working on a knitted gift, which is the most tediously boring pattern I've ever done, on itty bitty size 2 needles. Let's just put it this way: I started this in October. It's now April. But I'm refusing to start anything new (buying supplies doesn't count!) until I've finished this. Heaven help me. I can hear the sock yarn I've bought calling me - after all, if I'm going to work on tiny needles, I could at least be knitting socks! Posted by sreilly at 09:25 AM Comments (1) TrackBack

The Planets
Our solar system consists of the sun, nine planets (and their moons), an asteroid belt, and many comets and meteors. The sun is the center of our solar system ; the planets, their moons, the asteroids comets , and other rocks and gas all orbit the sun. The nine planets that orbit the sun are (in order from the sun): Mercury Venus Earth Mars ... Neptune , and Pluto Easy ways to remember the order of the planets are the mnemonics: "My Very Excellent Mother Just Sent Us Nine Pizzas" and "My Very Easy Method Just Simplifies Us Naming Planets" The first letter of each of these words represents a planet - in the correct order. The largest planet is Jupiter. It is followed by Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury, and finally, tiny Pluto. Jupiter is so big that all the other planets could fit inside it. The Inner Planets vs. the Outer Planets
