Lieutenant General (retired) Edward D. Baca served in America’s Armed Forces for 41 years. After retiring from active duty military service and prior to forming Baca Group, General Baca consulted in both the public and private sectors and devoted his time to community service. He was in constant demand as a keynote conference speaker and served as a role model for Hispanic and other minority youth. In September 1998, he formed Baca Group as a management and training consulting firm dedicated to not only doing a good job for clients but helping clients to do “good” in the broadest sense of the term. His vision is that Baca Group will seek to help clients with projects that will benefit community and nation and make the world a better place to live.
Under his leadership, the Army and Air National Guard achieved their highest levels of readiness and performed both their federal and state mission in an exemplary manner. He instituted numerous cooperative Guard ventures nationally and internationally though political and personal outreach, relationship building, negotiation and contractual agreements. Geopolitical areas of direct influence included Western Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, former Soviet Eastern Bloc nations to include Russia, and the 54 U.S. States and Territories. He gained a national reputation for the National Guard’s involvement in community-related activities to include extensive involvement in counter-drug and drug demand reduction activities and Youth-at-Risk Programs. He is widely recognized as a champion of U.S. veterans and is a role model for Hispanic and other minority youth.

The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) is a nonprofit service organization which serves as the binding force and communication hub for its member schools. The purpose, as put forth in its Constitution, is to promote the common interest of all members and to advance their welfare; promote and maintain high scholastic, military and ethical standards in member schools; represent the mutual interests of the member schools before the Department of Defense as well as the general public; foster and extend patriotism and respect for duly constituted authority; and cultivate citizens who love peace and who strive to maintain it. Regular membership is extended to essentially military schools which have a member of the armed services detailed or approved by the Department of Defense, and which maintain good standing in their regional accrediting organization. (An "essentially military" school is defined as an institution with military programs approved by one of the military services and which organizes its student body as a cadet corps, with students habitually in uniform and continually under military discipline while under the jurisdiction of the college or school.) Associate membership may be granted to schools offering a military program but which do not otherwise qualify for regular membership.

http://www.capmsi.org/overview.cfm
Home Overview Admin Guide Lesson Plans ... Misc Overview Download the MSI Pamphlet The Middle School Initiative began in 1993, in Houston, Texas. It was an Adopt-A- School joint program with the Army Reserve, Civil Air Patrol, and Briarwood School under the Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) program. This program served as the 21st test unit to the CAP national DDR program as it was initiated earlier and had its own funding. The success of placing the CAP program into a school for "learning-challenged youth" proved that all students were able to assimilate more when motivated, and the access to school facilities multiplied the ability of the squadron to conduct many varied activities. The CAP DDR program serves as a sponsor for all CAP school programs if the units are within 30 miles of Air Force, Air Reserve or Air National Guard bases. This initiative meets the Air Force requirement of reaching family members and their associates. All other school programs receive guidance and curriculum assistance as needed. The first CAP sponsored middle school program was formed just outside the gates of Kirtland AFB near Albuquerque, New Mexico. Initially formed with donated uniforms from the Navy, this concept was later assimilated as a CAP DDR initiative to fill the leadership/citizenship training void. Starting with one school, Wilson Middle School, the program has now expanded to 70 students in three middle schools. CAP is conducted as part of the Social Studies class that incorporates the standard Cadet Programs curriculum into the process. Cadets now wear the CAP uniform to school one day a week, much like the JROTC program. This model has resulted in a draft Memorandum of Understanding between the New Mexico Wing, Civil Air Patrol and the Albuquerque Public Schools. Fifteen of these cadets have earned scholarships (approximately $10,000 each) to the New Mexico Military Institute – this is a first. Plus, numerous cadets now also belong to the various JROTC units throughout the city.
