About the Vanished Children's Alliance The Vanished Children's Alliance was formed in 1980 by Georgia K. Hilgeman, VCA's Executive Director, and other professionals and victims to address the growing need for victim parents to obtain credible, effective and compassionate assistance in the location and recovery of their missing or abducted child(ren) As one of the country's oldest and most experienced missing children's organizations, VCA is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation providing nationwide and overseas assistance to families in all categories of missing children: non-family (stranger) abductions, family abductions, and runaways. This is the Child Abuse Council of Santa Clara County, of which VCA has been associated with for many years. There's lots of great information about child abuse prevention, links to other great like-minded agencies, and it's all available in several languages. America's Most Wanted - This is the website for America's Most Wanted. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the nation's clearinghouse for missing child cases, offers a Cybertip line for reporting Internet crimes.

Indiana Missing Children Clearinghouse Duties The Indiana General Assembly established the Indiana Missing Children Clearinghouse in 1985. The Clearinghouse is intended to serve as the state central repository for all information on missing children from Indiana or believed to be in Indiana. The program is designed to collect, store, and disseminate information on missing children. The Clearinghouse provides liaison among citizens, private organizations, and law enforcement agencies regarding missing children information. A toll-free telephone number (1-800-831-8953) is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to receive immediate sighting information on possible missing children, to receive any related lead information on possible missing children, to receive recovery information on a missing child, and to respond to requests for information and assistance. The Indiana Missing Children Clearinghouse publishes a quarterly missing children bulletin. This bulletin includes names, photographs, and physical descriptions of missing children. Bulletins are distributed to a wide variety of law enforcement agencies, organizations, state, local, and federal agencies, and individuals concerned with the problem of missing children.

For Additional Information In 1998, 932,190 missing persons (adults and juveniles) were reported to the police and entered into the FBI's National Crime Information Center. The FBI estimates that 85% - 90% of missing persons are juveniles; therefore, approximately 800,000 cases of missing children (or 2,200 children per day) were reported in 1998 (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 1999).
