Welcome to Clare County, the gateway to Northern Michigan!
Clare County was established in 1840. Before the white people came, it was the home of the Native Americans, many of them of the Chippewa people. First settled by farmers, it was the site of an intense logging industry and now is once again the home of farmers, as well as a wonderful place for boating, skiing, fishing, camping, and relaxing.
My name is Joan Brausch and I am the coordinator for the Clare County MIGenWeb. Please feel free to email me with suggestions, questions or requests! HELP NEEDED! LOOKUP VOLUNTEERS - If you have books about the county, census indexes or records and are willing to do lookups for others, or can do lookups when you are at the library or courthouse, I need you. OBITUARIES - If you collect obituaries or have access to obituaries, I need your help. TRANSCRIBERS - If you are willing to type pages from census records, cemetery records, church records, bible records, obituaries, family history articles, and other records. Welcome to
Antrim County, Michigan

The land of the free ... the home of the brave.
God Bless America!

Antrim County, in the north west corner of Michigan's lower peninsula was formed March 8, 1843 from its parent county, Cheboygan. It was originally named Megesee County, but was later renamed after County Antrim, in Ireland. Antrim consists of 476 square miles with a population of 16,194 (based on the 1989 statistics). It is bordered on the west by Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan and is one of the state's most popular recreation areas. This region was once famous for its iron processing. My name is Margaret Pecar Fallone and I am the person responsible for maintaining the Antrim County page. I am pleased to present the resources of two excellent organizations, the USGenWeb Project and the American Local History Network. Combined with their resources as well as the resources you will find on the Antrim County Michigan genealogy page, I hope to make your search for your ancestors and the history that surrounded their lives, an easier and informative one. Read this before e-mailing anyone!
Recently, a volunteer on this list sent me the following note. Please read it and consider it carefully. Volunteers are precious resources that the genealogy community can not afford to abuse. I am no longer able to do lookups due to the volume of emails I receive for help not related to my resource. I have people emailing me to get them birth certificates, to offer general genealogy advice, to do tombstone rubbings () - all sorts of stuff thathas nothing to do with my resource. It is out of hand and I can't sit here going through my email weeding out this garbage every day. I have had it. I am very sorry, and I know I have helped several people and I am glad of it - but there are too many people out there who are emailing me inappropriately. Please remove my address from your site.

I am not located in Michigan and have no resources myself. If something is not on the list, then I don't have access to it. Please read the list carefully. If you do not receive a response, consider that you may have asked for something to which the volunteer does not have access. Another good resource to try is
