... Links Peachfaced Lovebird
(Agapornis roseicollis)
by Doug Bedwell Peachfaced Lovebirds are the most common lovebird species in captivity. They usually breed freely, and are an excellent species for beginning and expert breeders alike. A great many color mutations have been established, with many new ones appearing only in the last few years. I am currently aware of at least seventeen distinct Peachfaced mutations, allowing well over 100,000 possible color combinations. Of all captive bred parrots, perhaps only the Budgerigar comes in a wider array of colors. Peachfaced originate in Southwestern Africa in and around Namibia and Angola. As best I am aware, they are fairly common and secure in their natural range. I have not seen any references to them being endangered in the wild. Peachfaced are the largest species of lovebird, typically weighing in at from 50-60 grams. Abyssinian Lovebirds (a. taranta) may be slightly longer than Peachies, but Abbies are quite slender, and Peachfaced will typically outweigh them by several grams.

Masked Lovebirds
Agapornis personata
Alias: NONE
Sexual Dimorphism: NONE
Physical Characteristics
The Masked Lovebird, Agapornis personata, has a generally green plumage, with the head, including the lores and cheeks, brown to sooty black. A yellow collar, about half an inch wide at its narrowest point on the back of the neck, is widest on the brea st. The cere, and bare skin area around the eye, is white. The bill is red, and the feet are blackish-gray. The blue mutation occurs in the wild, and was imported soon after its introduction (Delpy, 1996). The blue mutation has a blue body where the normal is green. The head remains black, and the collar is white. The bill can be oranges pink to a pinkish white. The masked Lovebird measures 14.5 to 15.6 cm long. One wing spread measure 10 to 10.5 cm. These birds weigh 50 to 55 g, with the female being heavier.
Range
The Masked Lovebird is found on inland plateaus in northeastern Tanzania.
Reproductive Characteristics
The Masked Lovebird breeds freely in colonies, as well in cages.
History
Discovered in he late 1800's, they were not imported until the 1920's

Ordinary lovebirds have only one dominant color (like plain blue, green, yellow) with touches of black usually on the tips of their tail and wings. Harlequin lovebirds have a combination of at least 2 colors (i.e., a combination of white, blue and black or a combination of canary yellow and green). People buy lovebirds for different reasons. Most people buy a lovebird because they want a pet. If you want a feathery friend who will amuse you with her curiosity and character, then a pet lovebird is for you. Many people think that a pet bird is like a wild bird; they mistakenly believe that a pet bird cannot be played with or petted. This is not true at all! Often, lovebirds will cling to you for company, and will want to snuggle with you. Lovebirds are affectionate and a lot of fun. Allow us to help you gain the wonderful experience of owning these gentle and charming little pets.

Lovebird FAQ
Lovebird FAQ
by Nicole Jones
Lovebirds are among the most fascinating birds. The many species and mutations mean that there are literally thousands of different lovebirds in the world. They are a joy to watch, fun to play with, and relatively easy to breed. Contrary to popular belief, lovebirds need not be kept in pairs. A single lovebird makes a wonderful pet, and a faithful friend. This FAQ attempts to cover the basics of Lovebird ownership and breeding. It is by no means a complete guide to everything you need to know about Lovebirds. There are many generalizations in this FAQ, and as with any bird FAQ, there are exceptions to eve rything. If your Lovebird doesn't fit the generalizations, it simply means that they are their own bird, and their personality is unique. If you wish more information, there are some recommendations for books within this FAQ.
    Are Lovebirds For You?
Lovebirds are small, active, happy birds. They can also be loud and nippy. A single Lovebird can be a great pet, while a pair of Lovebirds will often bond to each other and not care to spend time with you. A Lovebird will not sing, and few Lovebirds will learn human speech. But they are a lot of personality packed into a tiny and relatively inexpensive bird. If you are looking for a small buddy, who will be thrilled to play with you and snuggle with you, a Lovebird may be exactly right for you. But be p repared for some shrill chirps, a few nips on the finger, and very inquisitive shadow.

A near and dear experience…get closer by the minute to family, friends…each other! City life diminishes as soft Gulf breezes, turquoise water and sugar-white sands make for the perfect setting for a lovebird’s romantic getaway or wedding. Moonlight dances across water and sky moving you closer by the minute to the one you love. It’s real. It’s pure. It’s as close to perfect as you get. Planning your wedding? Check out our wedding information
Paradise Found Jennifer and Michael are twenty-something newlyweds. They took just enough time off from work to get married last year. The following April, they were ready for their first real vacation. They hit the beach running, climbing aboard their fuchsia Waverunner, gliding through the emerald-green surf. Their days were a blissful blend of early-morning tennis, mid-day siestas and late-afternoon snorkeling. As day gave way to evening, Jennifer and Michael sat on their private balcony overlooking the gulf, holding hands, watching the golden sun slip below the horizon. Kathy knew that if she and Tom didn't get away from demanding jobs and high-energy kids, they were going to explode. She suggested a week in Orange Beach to relax.

~DEDICATED TO BIRDS~ In the spring of 1990 I was given a 2 year old cockatiel. It was the beginning of an adventure into the joys, and sometimes the heartaches, of owning and loving pet birds.
Over the years my flock has grown, but I still have "Cheeks"- the adorable little feathered bundle who first introduced me to the wonders of having a bird companion. These beautiful and intelligent creatures will always fascinate me. That is why I'm dedicating this site...
my little nest in the massive forest of the Internet...
to my cherished feathered companions.
Sharing photos and information about my own pet parrots is just one of the ways
I can express my love for all birds. I hope you enjoy your visits to my nest! Are you ready to take a peek inside?
Well c'mon......
Hop On In And See What's Hatching!
