BETTER LIBRARIES BUILD BETTER COMMUNITIES
February 9, 2000
Thanks to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), an independent federal grant-making agency, the Louisiana State Library will receive more than $2 million in grants to help community libraries. This grant will be matched at the state level by at least two-to-one to provide innovative community programs. As a free public service, libraries are central to the preservation of democracy. Fundamental democratic values such as freedom and individual rights can only be attained when citizens have unlimited access to information, knowledge, thought and culture. As effective clearinghouses for community information, libraries are also vital to civic participation. Well-informed citizens are more likely to exercise their democratic rights and play an active role in society. And, by supplying the public with open meeting space, computer and reading skills, and after-school programs, libraries meet real community needs. And this time of year, our public libraries always have tax forms and information, too. Now, with the rise in computer and Internet use, many predict the library may go the way of the dinosaur. Entire encyclopedias are now contained on Web sites and compact discs!

Library.Solution from TLC Emerges as Automation Software of Choice for Libraries Throughout Louisiana
INWOOD, WV, March 02, 2001The Library Corporation - leading innovator in library automation and cataloging systems for more than a quarter century - today further demonstrated why its automated solutions are rapidly becoming the software of choice for libraries throughout the state of Louisiana. In recent months, 14 of 62 parishes in Louisiana have purchased Library .Solution - showing that Louisiana libraries, large and small, single site and multi-site, have increasingly turned to TLC for all their automation software. Library.Solution is a highly advanced automation technology that fuses Internet linkage, a Windows NT™ operating system, Intel-compatible hardware and an Oracle™ database. Engineered by industry leader TLC, it delivers a comprehensive, yet easy-to-use automation system that frees librarians from the complexity of patching together separate networks for cataloging, circulation and online resources. That approach has certainly been embraced in Louisiana, where the three newest customers of Library.Solution include Acadia Parish Library, East Carroll Parish Library and West Carroll Parish Library. Together, these institutions total ten sites anticipating complete installation of Library.Solution by this summer.

(This is our text-only home page.) Welcome to SEAALL, the Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries. SEAALL is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in Florida with the purposes of promoting law librarianship and developing and increasing the usefulness of law libraries, particularly those in the Southeastern area of the United States. SEAALL was originally established in 1954 an expansion of the Carolinas Chapter (established in 1939 as AALL's first chapter). Today our membership is over 500 strong, representing law librarians from the private sector, the government, academia, and more. For more on the history of SEAALL, please see From the SEAALL Attic , by Hazel Johnson. A continuing mission for SEAALL has always been to provide educational services for its members. This is primarily accomplished through the many educational offerings at our annual meeting and through instructive articles, pathfinders, and bibliographies
