  • Remember to bring coins for the copy machine. Document every fact with one primary source (church, civil records) OR two secondary sources (books, magazines, census records etc.) that don’t get their information from the same secondary sources. This is how erroneous facts are perpetrated and appear again and again.

Boca Raton, FL, September 4, 2000 The SIRS databases were recommended by the Public Library Database Advisory Committee, a committee of librarians from Louisiana public libraries and the State Library of Louisiana, for their full-text articles covering a variety of subject areas and for their wide range of source material. Database funding for the State Library and for 64 Louisiana public library systems was approved by the State Library of Louisiana. According to Thomas F. Jaques, Louisiana State Librarian, the SIRS purchase is expected to contribute to rising usage of online databases in Louisiana. "Usage of online databases in public libraries and the State Library of Louisiana continues to increase as patrons and staff become more knowledgeable about the value of online resources," Jaques said. "Databases of high quality and broad content such as SIRS will further stimulate use." "We are pleased to partner with SIRS in offering Louisiana citizens access to a wealth of electronic information through their local libraries, at home and at work," said Jaques.

The Lousiana Purchase:
Its Geographical, Political, Economical, and Social Impact on the Nation and the World
About

Researchers, scholars, educators, students, and all the people of Louisiana need a digital collection of resources, important to the history, culture, government and industry of the state of Louisiana. These unique and special resources are held in and by Louisiana libraries, museums, archives and historical societies. Recognizing this need to digitally capture, store and make available these unique and special resources, LSU's Division of Computing Services collaborated with the LSU Libraries and the LSU Department of Geography and Anthropology and initiated a digital library in 1996. Representing their success are numerous state and national grant funded projects that have populated the LSU Digital Library with 15 individual collections, totaling 9,500 digital items.
Demonstrating national leadership, the LSU Digital Library is poised to advance their digital library efforts and launch a statewide-digital library. An initial collaborative project with Louisiana libraries, museums, archives and historical societies would be to capitalize on the approaching bicentennial of the Louisiana Purchase in 2003. Many of these institutions have primary sources on this historical event that not only vastly enlarged the United States but also had considerable geographical, political, economical and social impact on the nation and the world. Thus the project would have local and national significance.
