An additional map icon "The sentence" is added. This additional map icon is to put a button that when clicked on will play a sound. Open the map icon "The Sentence" and a blank flow line appears. Put a sound icon on it and load a sound or you can record your sentence, if the microphone is connected to your computer.

ENGLISH TEACHER TRAINING COLLEGE
CURRICULUM: 3 year full time studies COMPONENT TITLE: Practical English Teaching COURSE TITLE: Integrated Skills MODULE TITLE: Listening Comprehension PREREQUISITES To be a student of our college after successfully passing the entrance examination which sets the required standard of knowledge of English at a little below the Cambridge F.C. level. The standard expected at graduation is Cambridge Proficiency level; therefore, a highly intensive programme of practical English instruction must be pursued, with a relatively high number of weekly contact hours maintained throughout the course of studies. The programme provides for the teaching of all major language skills. It is vital to the success of the programme that the medium of instruction in all courses in modules should be English. LECTURER mgr Jacek Bentke COURSE RATIONALE This module focuses on the development of listening skills allowing the participants to increase their ability to comprehend spoken English, for it is an important issue in any listening course to build up students’ confidence in their ability to understand spoken English. therefore the students should be exposed to as much spoken English and in as many varieties as possible. English is increasingly used as an International language and students should be aware that they will have to understand a wide range of native speakers accents. The language is also increasingly used as a lingua franca in various businesses and matters that is why students have to be aware that they may be exposed to non-native-speaker varieties of English.

LISTENING COMPREHENSION
This part of the test has different forms for the paper and pencil TOEFL test and the computer-based TOEFL test. On the paper and pencil TOEFL test, no picture is seen as the conversation is played. On the computer-based TOEFL test, the student sees a picture, listens to the conversation, sees the answers choices, and answers the question. Currently, we are in the process of upgrading this site to include audio capability. We are also beginning the process of including photographs to accompany each short conversation. Below, we have included a photograph with each of the first two conversations only. Typically, the photograph that appears before each conversation has little connection to the conversation itself. Therefore, the first two short conversations are meant to resemble the format of the computer-based TOEFL test, and the remainder of the questions are meant to resemble the paper and pencil TOEFL test. Computer-based TOEFL test listening example 1:
EX.1 MAN: I'M REALLY FEELING KIND OF SICK TONIGHT.
WOMAN: ME TOO.

Pre-Listening Reading Vincent Van Gogh - Bedroom at Arles
Dutch Listening Comprehension Exercise
Pre-Listening Reading Vincent Van Gogh - Bedroom at Arles
Stepping into someone's bedroom is a very private affair and with this painting Vincent van Gogh wanted to give his viewers a sense of tranquility and rest, as he claims in his letters. Perhaps it also expresses some of his inner feelings, his longing for some relaxation after having worked to near exhaustion. The painting also brings Vincent closer to us in the intimacy of his daily life. It might also be that Van Gogh wanted to record and perhaps even secure the fact that he had a place of his own. He had moved into this place only weeks before. The painting expresses not only 'rest or sleep in general' , but also, in the words of Jan Hulsker: "it says: I live here, this is all mine, these are the paintings that I have surrounded myself with, this is the way I live." Because we have two sketches, one made on October 16 and one on October 17, and know the finished work, we can get an impression of the changes that Vincent made after the first day's work. One of those changes is remarkable. On the first day he had painted a woman's portrait above the headboard of his bed; the next day hehad changed it into a landscape. We know that he had actually hung the portraits that he depicted. They meant a lot to him. He had portraits of his friends Boch and Milliet above his bed. The presence of a woman's portrait might suggest that he was thinking of a possibility of some female companionship. However, there are indications that the portrait in fact was that of his mother. Eight days before he had written to Theo that he was painting his mother in color after a black and white photograph, that bored him. We don't know whether he had his mother's portrait hanging on the wall, nor why he changed it into a landscape. Did a portrait disturb the image of rest?
