Hands-On General Science Activities with Real-Life Applications : Ready-to-Use Labs, Projects, and Activities for Grades 5-12 > Customer Review #1: worth the $$ if you teach general science
The book is spiral bound so it is easy to photocopy. I have used about 10 of the activities. All activities have a answer key. What I like is there is a section of content for the student to read before completing an activity. All activities are hands-on. I have a general science class and I have used the activity on moon craters. Students actually create craters in flour. Students perm pieces of hair in the chem. section. I do protein synthesis activity with bio. I do an acid/base activity using cabbage juice. I use the activity for earthquakes. If you teach astronomy to biology there is an activity for you. Materials are inexpensive, too.

    Science Activities
Guidelines for Authors Science Activities is always in search of innovative manuscripts that will provide our readers with the best of classroom-tested projects, experiments, and curriculum ideas. If you think you have such a manuscript or manuscript idea, we encourage you to submit it. Some general principles to follow when preparing your manuscript are listed below:
    • Use the active voice, and do not be afraid to use the first person. Readers want to know about your personal experiences with your topic.
    • Be specific and direct. Try to avoid jargon unless there really is no better way to say it.
    • Let your headings be your guide. If you find that you have added information below a subhead that does not logically follow it, consider moving it somewhere more appropriate, or think about whether it belongs there at all. Use numbered or bulleted lists to provide visual interest, but do not overdo.
Following is a suggested format for structuring your manuscript:
    • Introduction . In one or more general paragraphs, state your reasons for developing the activity and provide a brief background summary of the topic and/or questions to be investigated and why they are important. Try to make your introduction lively, and let the readers know why your approach to a particular subject is in some way useful to them.
    • Background.

Benefits to the University of Arizona and to the Citizens of the State:
Develop a molecular understanding of human disease.
Detailed genome maps are aiding researchers seeking genes and their encoded proteins associated with many clinical conditions currently being studied at the College of Medicine, including asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, depression, colon cancer, Alzheimer's disease, osteoporosis and glaucoma. In the future, these approaches will result in a decreased emphasis on treating only symptoms and more of a focus on treating the most fundamental causes of the diseases, thus leading to improved prevention strategies, and higher cure rates. Close interactions between physicians studying the disease state and basic scientists who are masters of the technology will unlock the power of the developing knowledge of the genome. Advance molecular agriculture to improve health and quality of life.
