http://www.riag.state.ri.us/history/default.htm
The Attorney General is established under the Rhode Island Constitution as one of the five general officers subject to election by voters. The office of the Attorney General was first created in Rhode Island in May 1650. Since its creation, the office has been an elected position, except for a brief period from 1740 to 1742 when the charter allowed for the appointment of a King's attorney for each county. The office of the Attorney General was formally adopted under the Rhode Island Constitution in 1842.
While other States, except Delaware, have district attorneys who prosecute criminal cases, Rhode Island assigns that duty principally to the Attorney General.

Introduction
The Time Magazine article, "On a Screen Near You: Cyberporn", that appeared on July 3 rd 1995 brought the issue of Internet pornography to the attention of the media, legislators and the general public ( Wilkins 1997 ). Even though the article was found to be inaccurate and many parts of the article were recanted by Time, the issue quickly took on a life of its own ( Wilkins 1997 ). This site explores some of the issues associated with the debate of censorship of various types of pornographic material on the web. There is a discussion of definitions of pornography and obscenity, an exploration of some of the general arguments for and against the censorship of pornography and a short legal history of pornography, censorship and the Internet in the United States. This web site is intended to be a starting point for exploring the issue of Internet pornography and is not an exhaustive source. Home What is pornography?

Argentineans Apathetic As Elections Are Underway
Despite 27 April presidential elections are underway, people pays more attention to the events on Iraq than on candidates.

As the country enters into the final stages of the first elections after the popular rebellion of December 2001, candidates cannot make the people talk about them. In bars and restaurants, friends, students and clerks join to exchange ideas about what is going on in Baghdad, but not many spend their free time talking about the election campaign

History of the Judge Advocate General's Corps The Judge Advocate General's Corps is a single organization made up of lawyers, legal administrators and specialists, and court reporters. The Corps' members are commissioned and warrant officers, enlisted soldiers and civilians, and are members of the Active Component, Army Reserve, and National Guard. They are also members of two honorable professions: the profession of arms and the profession of law. Like every Army organization, the primary mission of the Corps is to support the war fighter through a variety of activities. Judge advocates assist commanders with Operational Law, Civil Law, and Military Justice. Army lawyers provide legal services to soldiers and their families, boosting morale and allowing soldiers to stay focused on their mission. Most importantly, The Judge Advocate General's Corps provides the structure and support for maintaining discipline, the foundation of an effective fighting force. Today, the insignia worn by all uniformed members of the Corps reflects the many components of the Corps' mission: the pen denotes the recording of testimony; the sword, the military character of the Corps' mission; and the wreath, the traditional symbol of accomplishment.

Why Your Baby Needs a Legal Father Home Links Search Site Index ... Texas-Mexico Border Children need emotional and financial support from their fathers. Establishing legal fatherhood for your child ensures that he or she will be eligible for benefits such as Social Security, veteran's benefits, health care and child support. Revised: July, 1999 What does establishing legal fatherhood mean to your child? Establishing Legal Fatherhood. Under Texas law, a child born to parents who are not married has no legal father. There is a difference between a biological father and a legal father. You and the father can complete an Acknowledgment of Paternity (AOP) to establish legal fatherhood and guarantee the rights of the child. A representative of the Office of the Attorney General can explain the process and your rights and responsibilities. If you are on public assistance or Medicaid, your case will be automatically referred to our office by the Texas Department of Human Resources. Child Support. Your baby needs and deserves emotional and financial support from both parents. You may think you can get by on your own and live without any help from your baby's father, but you might change your mind in the future. Parents can establish paternity by signing an AOP which establishes a legal finding of paternity. The AOP can be signed at the hospital when the baby is born or later at the local birth registrar or child support office.

General Information
The University of North Carolina Press is the oldest university press in the South and one of the oldest in the country. Founded in 1922, the Press is the creation of that same distinguished group of educators and civic leaders who were instrumental in transforming the University of North Carolina from a struggling college with a few associated professional schools into a major university. The Press was also the first publisher to develop an ongoing program of books by and about black Americans. By 1950, nearly 100 such volumes had appeared under the UNC imprint. Among them were John Hope Franklin's first book and three books by Arthur Raper, including The Tragedy of Lynching . One of the Press's most significant recent achievements in this field is the publication of the five-volume Black Abolitionist Papers

History
The Office of Legal Policy (OLP) was established by Attorney General William French Smith in 1981 as the principal Department office to plan, develop, and coordinate the implementation of major policy initiatives of high priority to the Department and to the Administration, and to assist the President and the Attorney General in the Administration's judicial selection process for Article III judges. OLP devoted considerable efforts to the areas of criminal and civil justice reform, as had some of its predecessor policy offices (among them, the Office of Criminal Justice, the Office of Policy and Planning, and the Office for Improvements in the Administration of Justice). OLP also supervised the work of the Office of Information and Privacy (OIP) with respect to Freedom of Information and Privacy Act matters. In 1989, the office was renamed as the Office of Policy Development (OPD), and OIP was established as a separate Department component. For a one-year period, OPD was organized as a component of the newly-created Office of Policy and Communications, together with the Office of Public Affairs and the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. In 1993, that structure was discontinued and OPD was established again as an independent component.
