LAND ACQUISITION PROGRAM
Introduction
The Land Acquisition program of the Northwest Florida Water Management District is driven by the District's continuing commitment to permanently protect and preserve the water resources of northwest Florida. This program continues to build upon the more than 179,000 acres of wetlands and recharge areas already acquired by the District since it began its land acquisition efforts in 1984. At present, some 2.5 percent of the District's total land area of 7,168,000 acres is protected explicitly for water resource purposes by lands the District has acquired. Photo of Econfina Creek

Note to Landowners
The District's Five-Year Plan identifies a number of areas the District has selected for purchase, subject primarily to available funding and especially the presence of willing sellers. If your property is included in any of our acquisition areas or maps and you do not wish to sell your land to the District, the Florida Statutes require us to remove your property from the acquisition plan at the earliest opportunity. Please contact the Division of Land Acquisition at (850) 539-5999 at any time if you wish to remove your property from possible consideration for purchase. The District will maintain a list of such requests and annually adjust its acquisition plan accordingly.

Coastal Recreation Santa Barbara County contains 110 miles of coastline. The beaches and recreational areas located along this coastline offer a variety of coastal outdoor activities to Santa Barbara County residents and tourists. Recreational activities include: Beach Combing Beach Volleyball Biking Bird- and Whale-watching Camping and Off-Road Vehicle Use Equestrian Activities General Beach Use (including various beach games) Hang-Gliding (from coastal bluff areas) Hiking Jogging Photography Picnicking Sightseeing Sunbathing Walking Some of these activities are limited to locations next to the ocean; meanwhile, others are enhanced when conducted in close proximity to the ocean, either on the beach or onshore near the beach, where the ocean’s influence or physical qualities contributes to one’s experience. The mild coastal climate allows these activities to be enjoyed year-round. Beaches and recreational areas having beach access along the County’s coastline are identified in Appendix A. Northern Santa Barbara County’s development of coastal recreational sites is constrained because Vandenberg Air Force Base occupies much of the County’s northern coastline. Consequently, northern Santa Barbara County has developed more of an inland orientation with fewer beach access points and coastal recreational parks for residents and tourists to enjoy than the southern portion of the County. This land-use pattern heightens the importance of the few beach accesses that are available. Several beach segments have been closed recently to protect the Western snowy plover and its nesting habitat, a federally listed threatened species. Such closures place further constraints on public access to beaches along the County’s western coast.

From the 1986 Berkeley Waterfront Plan
The 1986 Plan is still in effect! Here's what it has to say about the North Sailing Basin:
Encourage sheltered water sports such as small boat launching and mooring (sailing, rowing, paddle, and sail-boating), with rentals to private organizations for necessary support facilities along the eastern shore of North Waterfront Park, provided environmental standards such as protection of the Bay from leachate can be met and provided this use is consistent with the City's Master Plan for North Waterfront Park. Investigate the need for and feasibility of dredging to make possible these activities.
Provide for the eventual development by a public agency in the future of piers along the alignment of Gilman Street extension for public viewing and fishing. A lot has changed since 1986, but the sense of this element of the plan - that non-motorized small craft activity and facilities to support them should be encouraged in the North Sailing Basin - has never been modified. Both the Marina Plan and Waterfront Overview now under final development by the City planning staff, and the

Rovinj - Town of sports and experience
This is the town of world regattas, international tennis tournaments, but it primarily belongs to recreation sportsmen and amatteurs, who play, run and swim just for the fun of it. So, what does this place offer You? Besides the recreational activities which you can find in large cities - from bowling and tennis to mini-golf and baskeetball - this town offers you all the things that you cannot find at home. And that is the Sea. So if you feel like facing the challange of sailinge, underwater fishing, paraflying - you have come to the right place. Or maybe riding? Why not try the unique experience of riding through forest "grown" out of the sea?
In tourist resorts, in hotels and on camping sites, indeed at any spot which enjoys the benevolence of sun and sea, you will find all kinds of recreational facilities. On the sea: a water - skiing school, parascending, sailing, water bikes, sandolinas. On land:a tennis school, tennis courts, volley-ball, basketball,a riding school, bowling, boules, soccer, darts, a gymnasium, a massage parlour and a sauna.
Diving
No special permit is required for snorkeling and scuba diving, but for safety reasons it is necessary to trail a buoy behind when diving. Diving is allowed all year round from sunrise to sunset. Divers are allowed to take photographs but must not remove anything from the seabed. Diving is forbidden in harbors, on navigation routes and in the "Baron Gautsch" wreck area, 500 metres in diameter.

76. Vaseux Lake Lodge Online -- Recreational Activities

http://www.vaseuxlakelodge.com/rec.html
Fishing Vaseux lake is populated by smallmouth and bigmouth bass, whitefish, carp, sunfish, kokanee, and cutthroat trout. In accordance with Canadian Wildlife Service regulations no motorboats are allowed on the lake. Fishing licences and copies of Fishing Regulations can be obtained in most local hardware or sporting goods stores. There are 250 lakes in the Okanagan Valley plus many streams and rivers that are fun to fish. Many of these are just a short drive from the lake. Boating
Vaseux Lake is an excellent place for sailing due to the fresh winds usually generated in the late afternoon ( generally from the north ). If you have a sailboard be sure to bring it with you. Kayakers and rowboaters can experience a tranquil setting padding around the Beaver lodge, along the shore watching for birds and wildlife. The Penticton Canal just 20 min away is a popular spot to go for a 'drift cruise' on your air mattress or inner tube. If you wish to go waterskiing, parasailing or jetskiing you can drive to Penticton or Osoyoos and use the rental facilities on Skaha or Osoyoos Lakes. Hiking and Biking
There is a map in each unit and brochures that will direct you to accessible hiking and biking.

77. Lake Onalaska Started As River Bottom Land
waters flooded this land and created the lake. Today the lake is used for many recreationalactivities such as camping, fishing, hunting and of course sailing.
http://www.lax-sailing.org/lax-sailing/History.htm
Lake Onalaska started as river bottom land, streams and fields rich with riverboat and Native American folklore. In the mid 1930's when the Lock and Dam systems were built on the upper Mississippi the back waters flooded this land and created the lake. Today the lake is used for many recreational activities such as camping, fishing, hunting and of course sailing. The La Crosse Sailing Club was formed in the early 1950's by a few hardy Snipe racers. It has developed into a facility with approximately 100 family memberships and monthly social events, weekly racing, frequent regattas and good times daily.
