With aims to bring back better opportunities to the children of his birth town, Mr. Shrestha continued his efforts to bring in better facilities, better books and supplies and better teaching environment to this school. In this process, during year 2000 he discussed his interests and about the possibilities of help to the village school from Superior Elementary School located at 1800 S. Indiana St. Superior, CO 80027. Superior Elementary School took keen interest in these discussions and hence the Sister School Project was established between Surya Boarding School in Khandbari, Nepal and Superior Elementary School in Superior, CO, USA in order to help, share and learn from each other's experiences and provide children of both schools, the perspectives of the other. On November 18, 2000 four members of the Superior Elementary School community left Denver to travel to Khandbari, Nepal home of their sister school, the Surya Boarding School. The team consisted of Dr. Holly Hultgren, Principal of Superior Elementary, 5th grade teacher Gregg Rice, Reading Specialist Amy Schackman and parent representative Mary Commander. He served in the 38th Indiana Infantry Regiment, Company A, from 1861 to 1862, whereupon he was honorably discharged due to a disability. He later served as first sergeant in the 137th Infantry Regiment, Company H. Tegarden was married to Charlotte (Lotta) Temple Elliott (1844-1901), and had three children: John Ludwell, Elta Belle, and James Harvey, Jr. After the death of James Sr., the Tegarden family resided near Campbellsburg, Indiana (Washington Co.). John Ludwell Tegarden (1867-1943) graduated from the Eikosi Academy, located in Salem, Indiana (Washington Co.), in 1888. He attended the Central Normal College in Danville, Indiana (Hendricks Co.), and received a pharmaceutical degree from the University of Michigan in 1894. Material in the collection indicates that Tegarden was a school teacher for a time (c. 1889-1890). He later worked as an analytical chemist and traveling representative for drug firms in Michigan and Colorado. He served one term as a Colorado State Representative (1925-1929). Upon retirement, Tegarden moved to a Colorado ranch owned in partnership with his brother, James. He resided there until his death.
