BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION
List of Boating Safety Education Courses by County U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary U.S. Power Squadron National Safe Boating Council
WHAT IS IT?
The Illinois Boating Education Course consists of a minimum eight hours of instruction. These courses cover the basics of boating safety, equipment and requirements, navigation, motorboat, registration and titling, emergency measures and the Illinois boating laws. Films, manuals and handouts are provided for use in the classroom. Persons completing the minimum eight hours of instruction and successfully completing the final examination will receive a State of Illinois Certificate of Competency and a graduate patch.
WHO MUST TAKE THE COURSE?
On January 1, 1978, a State law was passed that requires persons at least 12 years of age and less than 18 years of age may only operate a motorboat if:
    *they have in possession a valid Boating Education Certificate of Competency issued by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Division of Education.

Looking for evidence that the arts in education are key to the success of every student? Schools, Communities, and the Arts: A Research Compendium is a digest that summarizes a wide range of arts education findings in easily understood language and format. It is a useful tool for responding to education policy makers and leaders who question or seek documentation of the value of the arts in education.
The Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network is pleased to make this important national resource available. Schools, Communities, and the Arts: A Research Compendium was developed by the Arts in Education Program of the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with the Morrison Institute for Public Policy, Arizona State University.
