This site is listed in the BBC Education Web Guide. Begin your journey on the internet with The Rail. This is junction 1360 on "The Science Expedition". Governments play numerous roles in nuclear energy and radioactive waste management. On one hand, they may be active promoters of nuclear energy in many countries. On the other hand, they are also the regulators of things nuclear. This dual role often leads to complex relationships and overlaps between various government departments or ministries. The situation can become even more complicated when several government agencies claim jurisdiction over different (or sometimes the same) aspects. To complete the picture, you often have to add in different levels of government (e.g. local, regional, state, and national). An important point to remember is that the regulatory framework and laws are different in each country. International

    47. Programs
The idaho Family education Project (IFEP) is a collaboration of five agencies, withthe The idaho PIRC is part of the idaho Family education Project.
    http://familyadvocate.org/programs.htm
The Family Advocate Program fights child abuse by giving abused and neglected children a voice in court and by providing parent education and support to overburdened families. The Family Advocate Program is the parent agency for two distinct programs: CASA and Families First . Additional projects include the Idaho Family Education Project (IFEP), the Idaho PIRC , and "Light of Hope" The Families First program is a voluntary home-based parent education program. Parent educators visit families at home with lessons on child development, nutrition, health care, and effective parenting skills. All families are welcome and services are provided at no charge. Local hospitals, schools, and social service agencies refer families to the program. The Families First program uses two curriculums: The Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum is an award wining early childhood parent education and family support program. It works with parents of children ages to 5. The Family Outreach curriculum serves children 6 to 12 years old. Referrals are usually for a family experiencing a crisis, which generally revolves around discipline issues for a child or children.

"In Boise, AmeriCorps members are working with youth of all ages. At one site, an AmeriCorps member is finding great success involving youth from a local alternative school in service-learning projects. These teenagers, who have many problems of their own, are working with grade school children who need extra help in math and science. For the teens, working in the classroom has given them a sense of responsibility. AmeriCorps is making a big difference in my community and throughout the entire state."
    Boise Mayor Brent Coles
"The Idaho VISTA child health project was a great success for Idaho's children. We are no longer in last place for two year old children with complete immunizations. Over 30 birthing hospitals continue to call and remind parents to stay on time!"
"As AmeriCorps members gain in construction skill, our affiliates are able to expand the number of occasional volunteers through increased capacity to supervise and manage volunteers. We at Habitat for Humanity feel privileged and honored to have the AmeriCorps people with us, and we want more of them as time goes on."

Millard Fuller, Founder, Habitat for Humanity
