If you are looking for a page that was here before November 30, 2002, it will have changed locations. The information is still here, but you will need to find it again using the new Name Index or the links mentioned below. Note that if a person has more than one spouse, there may be a problem with the links. You may need to look up the name of each spouse in the Name Index to find the page which lists the children for that family. My thanks to the many people who have contributed toward what has been published at this site. It really takes a group effort to try to fll in all the gaps we have in Bodine genealogy. There are still many brick walls to break down. Please write me if you have any corrections or additions you'd like to suggest. I especially enjoy getting Bodine pictures. I will add these to the site as I have time. My email address is "Dave@MediterraneanAccents.com". If your Bodine line is not yet on here, what are you waiting for? Send it in. These genealogical data pages were last updated on November 30, 2002. There are now over 3800 Bodines at this site. That's up from 3450 Bodines from the last time I updated at the beginning of 2002. Have fun! I have put some pictures below of churches associated with the move of various lines of Bodines from Europe to America and of their expansion from New York City to other parts of the country.

LARUE GENEALOGY
gathered by James H. LaRue
ORIGIN OF LARUE FAMILY NAME,
EARLY HISTORY
I've been lucky enough to stumble across a lot of family history, mostly through the good graces of Phyllis Hansen of Springfield, Illinois. Phyllis is from the Hodgen family, which intermarried with the LaRue line at least twice back in Kentucky. She has pulled together a lot of raw material about the LaRues. My computer and I have whipped it into some kind of shape. I hope some of you might find it interesting, or funny, or both. But before I get into listing things, I thought I'd pass along some background information. WHERE DO THE LARUES REALLY COME FROM? As near as anybody can figure, the LaRues seem to come from a part of France called Picardy. Picardy was founded by the Picards, who, according to tradition, are descended from an ancient Celtic tribe. In the early 1600's, there was a family living in Picardy that went by the name of "de la Rue du Rozoy" which meant "of the Street of the Rozoy." Rozoy (pronounced "rah-zwah") is a town on the river Serre, 30 miles north of Reims and 35 miles west of Sedan. "The Street" is taken to mean not just any street, but an "important" street. One of these families did in fact have a coat of arms but whether or not any of us can lay claim to it is not too clear. HOW DO YOU SPELL LARUE?

Huguenot Genealogy When Martin Luther stoke up is " 95 th thesis " on the door of Wittemberg Castle church’s on october 31 st 1517, he launches the active phasis of the Reformation. Then with him, and Calvin, and Zwingli, Europes enters the Spiriritual Renaissance after the Artistical one. It will also be one of her history bloodiest century, and one of the darkest of the Roman Church. The persecutions against the Huguenots in the Kingdom of France obliged most of them to migrate in two times. The first one was the logical result of the Religions Wars, the second one was the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes by Louis XIVth in 1685. For Genealogy, we will notice that since 1541, Huguenots have written Baptems Registers with names of the child, of its father and mother. Marriage and Burials Registers will be made in the same way but differently depending on cities or pastors. Even during the difficults " Desert " years, Registers were held by pastors sometimes on families Bibles. Most of Huguenots who have left France found protection in England, Scotland, Holland, in some german states, and even in Russia. Others left Europe for Florida, Louisiana, or Quebec. Some join the English and Dutch families to the American Colonies or South Africa.

    II. History
The Protestant Reformation, begun by Martin Luther in the early 16th century in Germany, soon found its way to France. Fueled by the protests of Luther against the abuses of the Catholic Church, Protestantism grew rapidly in a country stringently ruled by a Catholic king and government. The reign of Francis I (1515-47) began the persecution of Protestants in France.

Continuing with the theme of European refugees fleeing from religious persecution, the current article deals with the Huguenots. Historical Background Protestantism was introduced into France in the 1520s, and by 1560 there were more than 2,000 Protestant churches in the country. This dramatic rise in numbers alarmed Catholics. The Huguenots, as the Protestants of France were called, began to be persecuted. They in turn took reprisals against Catholics. Finally, open civil war broke out. Between 1562 and 1598 eight bitter wars were fought. The treaties that concluded the wars usually granted the Huguenots some measure of tolerance, but the government's subsequent ignoring of the terms led to a renewal of hostilities. The greatest act of treachery took place on August 25, 1572, St Bartholomew's Day, when thousands of Huguenots were suddenly massacred by government forces in Paris and elsewhere in France.
