March 2003 There are so many sources providing health information – newspapers, magazines, television, radio, and the internet. Unfortunately, not all of them are always reliable. Figuring out which ones to believe can be a daunting task.
There are a few things that can tip you off. For instance, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. If someone profits from you believing them, be skeptical.
If an article quotes a study, go to the original journal. Even the most technical journal article will have an abstract at the beginning that will give you a simpler explanation of the study and its results.
While these can be good references, you still need to use common sense. Everything is not always right for everyone. If you have questions regarding health information, discuss it with the appropriate healthcare professional – your doctor, pharmacist, or dietitian. You are always your own best health advocate.

Try to eat around 2000mg. per day. Many authorities say 1100 to 3300 mg per day is healthy. (The human body requires as few as 200 to 500 mg. per day!) Fat
Try to eat less than 60 gms per day. 25 to 40gms for a strict diet. Try to get more than 10% of your calories from saturated fats. Percentage of calories from fat
Less than 30% is a good rule. 10 to 15% for a strict diet. Remember, 1 gram of fat equals 9 calories. Cholesterol
Try to eat less than 300mg per day. 100 to 150mg for a strict diet. Saturated fats do not have cholesterol in them, but they do cause the body to increase its own production of cholesterol
