Health/PE with Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School HOME Curriculum Index Health/PE Index Eighth Grade Term 2 - 2000/2001 Teacher: Mrs. Gwillian and Ms. Allie Health Students have done several different things this term. This term was the beginning of only one P.E. class a week and one Health class a week. The students had an easy time adjusting - taking on different activities and some homework that was required for Health class. Health class consisted of dealing with the three different types of health - physical, mental and social well being. The eighth grade worked on a Mineral project and the 3 health's to gain an understanding that what they do with their bodies makes them into the individual that they are today. Students discussed and wrote in their journals regarding the 3 healths. Students are also getting an oppertunity to have 10 minute "Talk Time" at the end of each Health class. Rec/PE Students have done several different things this term. This term was the beginning of only one P.E. class a week and one Health class a week. We managed to stay out side during this mild winter as long as we could. We went for hikes in the Nickerson Park, Fort Hill and over at the Salt Marsh Visitors Center. Students took on the idea of being visually impaired while doing the walk at the visitors center. When the weather went for a change to the cold side we headed off to go bowling for a couple of weeks. It was then off to the Norseman in Eastham to play some basketball.

A possible link between deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and long haul air travel was first suggested by reports in medical journals in the 1950s. These early reports of DVT and the evidence about the causes of DVT in general pointed to immobility as the common underlying risk factor. Despite this the information is still unclear on how common travel-related DVT really is what the risk factors are how it can be prevented. 2.
