Teaching Your Child

Start early Two years old is not too early to start teaching your child about safety. A three-year-old can learn how to talk on a telephone and how to make an emergency call (post the number on the wall, and make sure he or she can reach the telephone at all times). Between 3 and 4 years old, a child can learn a home number and address. To help reinforce the child's memory, paste your home phone number on the wall and on the telephone, and practice calling the number from other places. A really great way to reinforce lessons you've taught is to have your child teach you. Pretend to be a younger sibling, or a young friend or play Barbies or dolls and have your child teach you or the dolls how to handle different situations. This forces the child to think and to apply the lessons. Give your child self-confidence Safer Child has provided you with an ever-evolving list of Teaching Links to helpful organizations that work to teach you how to teach and protect your child. Safer Child isn't suggesting you hound your children to a point at which they're afraid of their own shadow. But you can gradually introduce them to the notion that there is the potential for danger. Then, because it wouldn't be fair to tell them that and not give them the self-confidence or skills to cope with it, make sure they know that you (and other caregivers) will protect them, and that, over time, they also can learn how to protect themselves.

Tailored courses are organised directly with the School, usually with a named individual; if you need to know who the co-ordinator is in your School please contact Ann Morton (ext. 3295) who will be able to help you.

Requirements for Being a Guidance Counselor
I am a sophomore pursuing a psychology degree. When asked I never really knew what type of people I wanted to counsel. Then recently it hit me. I want to be a school counselor! My question to you is do you have to teach classes to become a counselor, and is a psychology degree acceptable in this field?
You must major in school counseling, not psychology to be a school counselor. You must have a masters degree in school counseling. You also must pass a test depending on what state you live in. Do you have to teach classes to be a counselor? If you mean, do you also have to be certified as a teacher, that depends on what state you live in. Some schools will have you counsel and teach, others will not. Write back and let me know where you live. Take Care. Lisa Taylor-Austin Becoming a Counselor 2 I recently graduated from Colgate University with a bachelors degree in both Psychology and Spanish. I am now looking into graduate schools and am extremely interested in being a guidance counselor. I am having a difficult time researching schools or for that matter even finding out exactly what Master's Degree is needed to be a guidance counselor! Please help if you can with any suggestions or any information.

Good TEFL Jobs, Good Salaries,
Great Locations The advantages of teaching English abroad
There is a huge global demand for qualified English teachers. Salaries for entry level teachers are above the median earning standard for the country in which you will be teaching. Private free-lance tutoring can bring in enough extra to allow you to save a comfortable amount. Although there have been some recent financial problems in Asian countries, you may still be able to save a comfortable amount each month, especially in Japan and Korea. American citizens with teaching qualifications are in high demand in almost all countries in Latin America. Mexico has moved to the front of the list since NAFTA. Asia continues to be a very high demand area, with Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Thailand in the forefront. China has also surged forward in offering job openings for English teachers. Vietnam has recently joined the list of Asian countries needing teachers. Eastern Europe and Northern Africa are strong job-hunting areas (Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt). The more educational degrees you have in any field, the more in demand you will be, especially in Asia.
Requisite Training
Teachers of English are in high demand throughout the world, but it is becoming more and more difficult for those who have no training to simply go abroad and find a job. Our program provides the building blocks you need to begin a new career. First, we provide both theoretical and practical training in the techniques of teaching a foreign language as well as a thorough review of English grammar itself, all of which are essential to anyone who wants to work as an English teacher, either at home or abroad.
