AFL-CIO President John Sweeney joined Washington, DC Mayor Anthony Williams, Countrywide Financial Corporation Chairman and CEO Angelo Mozilo and Fannie Mae Chairman and CEO Franklin D. Raines at the National Press Club in Washington, DC today to make the announcement. DC is one of the new cities where the program will begin operating. In the next three years, the initiative is expected to generate 10,000 loans with a total volume of $1.2 billion nationwide. Addressing national and local union, political and housing officials, Sweeney said the initiative will benefit union members across the country by making the process of homeownership more affordable and worker friendly.
