These five-year grants will fund partnerships between academic researchers and Head Start programs designed to improve child outcomes in the areas of literacy, social-emotional development, and other domains of school readiness, through enhancements to curriculum, teacher training and mentoring, parent involvement, and assessment practices. Personnel History Page: JANUARY - APRIL 1996 The Family Tree Resource Center, a new non-profit corporation, officially opens at Therrell High School, establishing a legacy of the Therrell Cluster. Funded in part by United Parcel Service and the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the center encourages students to graduate from high school and pursue further education or technical training. A component also provides mentoring and tutoring for parents and students. The Carver Cluster and St. Paul's AME Church sponsor a health fair that focuses on early detection of illness, preventive actions, and drug awareness. Clusters participate in a TAP-wide project called Spring into the Games, an intensive campaign to clean, paint, and beautify neighborhoods prior to the Summer Olympics. The Washington Cluster develops the Volunteer Probation Program, designed to improve probation services by providing intensive supervision to help probationers mainstream back into society. The program uses trained volunteer lawyers and law students to assist probation officers. Columbia Community Connections, Inc., a family resource center, begins to serve families in the Columbia area of the DeKalb Cluster. Each selected public child welfare agency or Tribe has put together a team that will work together to make changes and implement new systems over the course of one year. The teams from across the country will be guided and mentored by experts in the field as they study, test, and implement the latest knowledge and evidence available. She holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, an M.A. degree in Psychology from the New School for Social Research in New York, and a Ph.D. in Child Psychology from Union Graduate School in Cincinnati. She completed post-graduate study at Detroit's Merrill-Palmer Institute. Dr. Boxill has held the responsibility of executive director of Atlanta's Inn for Children, an extended hour, non-profit early learning facility developed by five major hotels to serve hourly workers, 1995 -2001; chairperson for the Department of Child and Family Services at the Atlanta University School of Social Work (1981-87). She has been a member of the faculties of Atlanta University, Oglethorpe University, West Georgia College, Emory University School of Medicine - Division of Public Health, and The Georgia School of Professional Psychology. She has held a graduate faculty position at The Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio since 1986. Currently, Dr. Boxill is a full-time graduate faculty member of The Union Institute; and, psychological and program evaluation services consultant to groups and individuals.
