You will get back whatever info we can find, but if our search turns up nothing, we will let you know and the search will be free of charge. In Depth Research and Census Combing: $7.00 USD Per Hour With our hourly research you can order a specific amount of research hours. You can order as many hours as you would like and if we hit a dead end we will only charge you for how long we worked. Carlisle - probably named for one of the Earls of Carlisle, though it may have been named for the English hometown of James Adams, first white settler of the district, who was banished from England by Oliver Cromwell in 1640. Henry David Thoreau mentions Carlisle in A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers , saying: On the other hand, the road runs up to Carlisle, city of the woods, which, if it is less civil, is the more natural. It does well hold the earth together. It gets laughed at because it is a small town, I know, but nevertheless it is a place where great men may be born any day, for fair winds and foul blow right on over it without distinction. It has a meeting-house and horse-sheds, a tavern and blacksmith's shop, for centre, and a good deal of woods to cut and cord yet. Find out more about Carlisle's early history Carlisle at long last builds its first Town Hall (1997)! To find out how (and for whom) the meeting rooms were named, click

Page 631 General Stephen B. Yeoman, attorney at law, Washington, was born in Washington, this county, on the 1st day of December, 1836, and is a son of Alvah and Elizabeth Yeoman. His father was a native of New York, and his mother of Virginia. His father came to this state about the year 1806, and his mother about 1815. They had a family of eight children, four of whom are living.
Stephen, the subject of our sketch, at the age of fifteen, shipped as a sailor; visited New Zealand and different points in South America, Asia, and Africa. After enjoing many adventures, and undergoing many hardships, finally returned to the United States. His great grandfather served with credit as a captain in the revolution, and his grandfather as a first lieutenant in the war of 1812.
In May, 1864, he received from the President of the United States, the appointment of colonel of this regiment, and was detailed by War Department to Camp Caley, Virginia, as superintendant of recruiting service and chief mustering officer, of the northeast district of Virginia. November 29, 1864, he rejoined his regiment, and led this command in all the actions after that date. He has also beencommanding officer of 3d Brigade, 1st Division, 25th Corps, and was promoted by the President of the United States, to Brevet Brigadier General of Volunteers, for his gallant services during the war; to rank as such from the 15th day of March, 1865.

    80. The American Revolution
This article, written by a descendiente (Virginia Sanchez) describes her research into the wills of New Mexican soldados around 1800. The equipment that is listed in the wills makes this very useful to the Spanish Colonial (Presidial) reenactor. In addition, there are links to books on the sidebar that also might be of interest to more general Spanish Colonial history. Unfortunately, there are broken links on this and other pages within larger 1stBooks site, including the link for Virginia's genealogy page (http//thern.home.att.net/).

Supplies and aid to the American cause came from almost every part of the Spanish empire and currently, historians and genealogists throughout Spain, Mexico, and the United States are reviewing historical documents in an effort to rightfully give Spain and its Colonial Patriots credit for their aid. Based on the time Spain was at war with England and the Spanish military service records of New Mexico Colonial Patriot Antonio Xavier Madrid, we know he donated two pesos ($60) toward the cause of the American colonies. At this time, the Province of New Mexico was rather poor and sparsely populated. His sacrifice to the cause of the American Revolution came at a time when cash was hard to come by and soldiers were sometimes not paid in full or paid in pesos de la tierra (e.g., crops) as opposed to pesos firma (cash).
